| Going veggie 20:51 - Mar 16 with 3776 views | bluelagos | At home, no meat in the kitchen so see how it goes. Suspect I might crack the first time I smell bacon...but if you don't try. Top recipes veggie people please. Got a load of quorn to try and make into something tasty... | |

| Going veggie on 21:00 - Mar 16 with 2007 views | Meadowlark | Good luck. Coming up to 40 years veggie for me. It's easy once you get started. Don't often have Quorn but we had a lasagne with it this evening. Pulses and mushrooms are your new friends, not just vegetables. | | | |

| Going veggie on 21:24 - Mar 16 with 1879 views | GlasgowBlue | Good luck. I went veggie three years ago after my Mrs took me to a vegetarian restaurant against my wishes. She was already one year meat free. I thought I would crack, but I haven't been tempted once. I'm practically vegan in my diet now but vegan cheese is minging and the sinless eggs are awful otherwise I'd be on a completely plant based diet.. | |

Yeah chickpea curry is one of my big favourites. Or curried cauliflower. Falafel burgers, plant based burgers. There is so much choice that I don't miss meat at all.

One thing I have found since going veggie is that eating out with meat eating friends is a pain. The majority of restaurants are very lazy and put a couple of token veggie dishes on. If we go out as a couple then it's always to a vegan restaurant as there is so much choice.

Not really. If you buy the processed shit from Teco then it can be pricey. But there are plenty of health food stores selling produce at very reasonable prices. And the staff are brilliant as they have a passion for it and give great advice. [Post edited 16 Mar 21:33]

Primarily motivated by the environmental impact of meat, and the health benefits. Hopefully I'll make a go of it.

Kinda Co and I Am Nut Ok do really nice vegan cheese. You need to go cashew cheese really, the stuff that's trying to be like cheddar and suchlike is indeed disgusting for the most part. Cashew cheese doesn't fully do the job of cheese - you can't grate it, for example - but it's lovely stuff.

| Going veggie on 21:48 - Mar 16 with 1760 views | Daninthecampo | Our vegan friend brought us sone redefine meat flank steak from the UK, we were shocked how meat like it was with a proper chew and texture of meat and cooked well on the BBQ. Clearly not meat but with a peppercorn sauce it was very tasty. Indian,Asian,Italian and Mexican are the easiest dishes to replace/leave out meat from your diet | | | |

Cheers Herbs I'll give that a go. Also advice to new veggies, beware of rendering fat from meat in a lot of cheeses. [Post edited 16 Mar 21:53]

Redefine meat is crazy. I have their burgers and I had to read the packaging three or four times before i was convinced it was plant free, as it even has blood like moisture oozing out during the cooking process. [Post edited 16 Mar 21:56]

I've been a vegetarian all of my adult life (and on and off throughout my teenage years) but have recently started eating fish again when we go out if the menu is dreadful. Which it often is.
| Going veggie on 22:45 - Mar 16 with 1618 views | J2BLUE | Nice one. I have tried loads of vegan products if you want some suggestions for meat replacements. Obviously beans, lentils, chickpeas etc are excellent staples but sometimes it's just nice to have a burger or something. | |

| Going veggie on 03:00 - Mar 17 with 1501 views | football | Over 40 years veggie for me now and the smell of bacon still gets me! Veggie alternatives are so much better now than they used to be. You can literally switch out meat for quern or tofu or just veggies and its just as nice | | | |

Same here, though trying more vegan cheese now than before so moving in that direction. Will always eat eggs, but then I have my own rescue chickens so I know where the eggs come from and they are free range and happy

Marbles is also incredible. Not cheap but often on club card deals at Tesco. No idea if it tastes like meat as I've been veggie for over 40 years and the daughter for 15 but it tastes amazing.
| Going veggie on 04:18 - Mar 17 with 1457 views | shady | Too easy. Don't bother with replacements. Go the whole 'hog': As has been said Indian, Mexican,Greek,Italian dishes No need for cheeses, quorn tofu with every meal, protein is in lentils and legumes Rice and lentils and veggies and spices. ...50 years plus a veggie. Oh! Eating out can be problematic; especially if you're like me and only eat in a pure veg place. Happy Cow App helps or in extreme cases move to a more veggie town/country. However even here, in India, there's a meat creep. | | | |

Something I've wondered out loud and not sure why I'm airing it here......... but here goes....... In the same way a steak restaurant will put on a vegetarian dish or two to be fair to the people who choose to live that way. Should a vegetarian restaurant not put a meat dish or two on the menu for the people who choose to live their life that way?

Speaking as a non-vegetarian, the answer is a resounding "no". Indeed, my experience of vegetarian and vegan restaurants is that the food is superb, so unless your diet is confined to burgers and the like, there is bound to be something a non-vegetarian would enjoy. [Post edited 17 Mar 7:07]
