All this is going to do, is split the supporters (even) further and where's the benefit in that? But that’s the best we’re getting. He’s fronted up, climbed down and apologised. You might not like the sentiment, you might be able to rip the words apart, but that’s it now. There won’t be anymore videos, apologies, statements, resignations or sackings.
You can either meet them in the middle, start to move on, and get back to enjoying your football club again or, sadly, this will end up spoiling something that is such a big, important part of your life. Unfortunately life isn’t perfect, but don’t let this or anyone spoil ITFC for you.

| It is NOT time to move on on 09:57 - Mar 28 with 1295 views | ZedRodgers | An apology as forced and opaque as this only makes things worse. I would hope even those who seem to think this has been blown out of proportion can recognise that. The ‘apology’ will fuel even more division. There will now be those shouting “you’ve got nothing to apologise for” even louder (which the cynic in me thinks Ashton wants - hence the use of the term ‘elements’ of the fan base), and those who are, quite rightly, left feeling as though the man has not even had the decency to clarify what exactly he is apologising for. It is quite simple for me that if you are unable to even acknowledge that you have acted without honesty, let alone behave like that in the first place, you can no longer be trusted in a position of such authority. So I don’t see how it can be left as it is. | |

The problem is we invited a fascist to Portman Road and let him use our club as propaganda, then lied about it, then gave a shit non-apology. If you think the real problem is people being pissed off and expressing that on an ITFC forum then there's no helping you.

if you have sympathy with the cause here as you seem to express in your own post, then I don't see why you'd take this personally, especially as you have total anonymity here please just try to engage with what I'm saying - that inaction is not the way here I'm not here to promote division, only love of the club for reasons that counter hatred

I don’t think there are many if any that are UNoffended, me included. A line was crossed and huge, poorly thought out decisions were made. It appears now however, many want the effects of this to keep spreading like a disease, trying to infect and destroy everything that we have become.

It's pretty clear what the thread is about from the title. If you find it tiresome, you don't have to click on the thread. One could just as easily argue that it's tiresome that those who don't care about Town now being associated with a racist grifter and then lying about it feel they have the right to tell those who are bothered by it how they should feel.

So I have no intelligence because I dont agree with you or others. The arrogance of that statement is breathtaking and sums up everything that is wrong with this place at the moment. As no doubt unintentional as it was, well done for summing it up so eloquently. Thank you, seriously thank you.

You're asking for a mea culpa that isn't going to happen. In any official world "I apologise unreservedly" passes for a serviceable confession. Even in the private sphere, it's the best most flawed human beings can manage. If you want him to go further and say something further, relating not only to not entertaining any political platform, but also especially not that particular iteration of politics, you'll wait in vain - not least because, outside the TWTD bubble, many (check out the Star comments, and the democratically elected Reform wards and constituencies) don't see it that way. And if you are of the opinion that they should, Ashton, whatever his own personal opinion, will know that any additional comment leaning towards what you want, would simply prolong the noise from that different quarter. I think he's probably said all that will be offered from the club apart from any personnel who might feel compelled to reinforce the official apology.

I think you have simultaneously missed my point whilst ramming in your own point about some people in the country liking Reform. For me, an apology that doesn’t address what people feel confused about - for example, why the local press were told no involvement - just furthers the division. I’ve already seen national political media reporting this as an apology for meeting Farage. The more I think about it, I can only imagine an apology this vague, with the skirting of whatever the ‘mistruths’ are, seems to purposefully only serve those who will say he has nothing to apologise for. If the ‘apology’ spreads further division, then that for me is another signal of incompetence.

The last thing I want is the effects to keep spreading like a disease. All I ask for is honesty, integrity and contrition. Unfortunately I have seen none of these. I completely respect that you do not feel the same way, why can you not respect that others do?

Sorry, you're blaming posters on a message board for this? Not Ashton for inviting Farage to the club and allowing him to use it to promote himself and his party? Not Ashton for then lying about what happened and then offering a weak half apology? It's all the fault of the fans who are pissed off about it? Give your head a wobble, ffs.

| It is NOT time to move on on 13:56 - Mar 28 with 586 views | Nutkins_Return | I think I was one of the first to speak up about my disgust and that thread was maybe the first people were expressing their feelings on. I'm coming from the same place of disgust, anger and disappointment with the club and Ashton on this. I think the way it has been dealt with has been poor and increasingly now its clear Ashton is where my frustration and disappointment is. I wrote to him (something I've never done before to any business as I can remember) I was was so annoyed. But I think I am actually moving to the 'time to move on,' territory. I think we need to separate this out now at least from club/football and Ashton. My annoyance is now at Ashton. From a football perspective we need to move on quick and focus on the team and McKenna and back them hard. For me Ashton has gone from a lot of credit to last chance and his actions over the next 6 months count and needs to shift this a lot to good positive community actions and away from divisive, racist scum bags like Farage. | |

I fully respect other’s views and opinions. What I don’t agree with is the continued drive by some to keep this situation going in such a negative manner. Just over Three years ago, we had beaten Accrington Stanley here at Portman Road, the plans, hopes and aspirations were undoubtedly already in place to drive the club forward, most of this being done by Mark Ashton and his team. Now, the guy is clearly “marmite” to a lot of our supporters. Those it seems were happy to dislike MA but enjoy everything relatable to what he had helped achieve, stadium upgrades beyond anything we’ve seen before, some fine talent and investment in the playing staff, persuasion to keep McKenna at the club when he was heavily touted to move on, bringing the live entertainment of Fabio Wardley and Ed Sheeran to Portman Road as well as most impressively helping bringing Premier League football back last year. Now it seems all that is forgotten or irrelevant due to his almighty cock up earlier this week.

Will somebody from his leadership team be eyeing his job? The team and our promotion push is self contained under the manager. Monday 10am would be a perfect time for him to clear his desk.
