Doesn’t this totally defeat the point of the whole process? I actually agree with the Labour proposal to have a confirmatory referendum on any deal but surely whipping to ensure that gets as much support as possible is against the whole purpose of indicative votes?

Agree.
The point is that neither side should be imposing whips and that all MPs can vote freely so we can actually see where the way forward lay.

I've received an email from the Government saying that they won't revoke Article 50 just because I, along with 5.8million other people, signed a petition.
