Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk on 11:37 - Aug 28 with 3241 views | BloomBlue | KFC now they have stopped people licking their fingers. Nothing worse when you're eating in a fancy place to see someone licking their fingers, not very classy
Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk on 11:38 - Aug 28 with 3239 views | C_HealyIsAPleasure | Depends what you mean by fancy really. 1921 in Bury probably has the most fancy looking food however the restaurant itself is fairly relaxed so I’d probably say either Maison Bleue or Lavenham Great House Admittedly I can’t say I have as much knowledge as far as North and East Suffolk go so may be somewhere I haven’t considered

Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk on 11:40 - Aug 28 with 3222 views | TractorWood | Good question. The Northgate in Bury is quite posh I guess. Not sure about Ipswich. Maison Bleue in Bury is meant to be posh but haven't been. Midsummer House in Cambridge (not Suffolk I know) has 2 Michelin stars but haven't been there. Especially with Sri Lankan curry house Banana Leaf close and incredibly good.

Maison Bleue would've been my suggestion I think. I just wondered if there was anything outside the towns that I hadn't considered. There used to be a place many moons ago, can't remember for the life of me where it was but it's a village somewhere near BSE. Was in a Georgian mansion building, tucked away down a little lane. Really nice countryside views. Unless I dreamt this?

Are you sure? Can't see that any of them do. They might be in the Michelin guide but that's not the same thing.

Those are the ones I've always known as having it but you could re correct in terms of them in the guide rather than a star although given I've not eaten in Suffolk other than at a family home or a pie at PR for 15 years I'm going on hearsay rather than proof

Nah, I'm pretty sure none of them do. I was under the impression Maison Bleue had one but I might be wrong on that.

None do in Suffolk, but I think the Unruly Pig (near Woodbridge) is better than many I’ve been to that have stars in other parts of the country. [Post edited 28 Aug 2020 12:24]

Yeah the criteria they use for stars doesn't necessarily mean that you can't get a tastier and more enjoyable mela in a restaurant that doesn't have a star. I was just curious as wasn't sure if Suffolk had any.

Neither have stars, but both are very, very good. I wouldn't call either 'fancy', in the sense of pretentious, which is what I think the OP is getting at.

Yes my votes would go to (in no order): 1921 - very good and the service is exceptional. Maison Bleue - good good. And Clive if you are looking to impress a special someone, int he summertime eating outside at La Talbooth in Dedham just on the river has always worked well for me! Used to be great fine dining, but have not been for a number of years.

I had the privilege of eating at Midsummer back in Feb for my 50th and it was exquisite (and very expensive - don’t ask). Would I call it posh, no, pretentious nope but fancy and classy yes, they really know their stuff and how to treat people and make you feel welcome. As a chef that has eaten in a fair few good places around the country and world I’d say I,, was probably the best place I’ve ever eaten at and right on my doorstep in that sense too. Most fancy place in Suffolk... Tuddenham Mill, just about in Suffolk

I've only been to Tuddenham Mill once. It was a celebration meal at my first temping job in an office. It was really awkward because they were celebrating a great year that I had not contributed to in any way but also the value of the food and booze I consumed was far more than I was paid for a number of days temping. Midsummer House is infamous for its many course menus and being eye wateringly expensive. Heard it's decent though. [Post edited 28 Aug 2020 16:10]
