Any tips for things to do around there and the Lake District/Yorkshire Dales? Already booked up for horse meditation!

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Just you and the mrs?

Walk, walk and walk some more. still very busy at the moment in the usual honeypot sites (eg Bowness, Ambleside) so go a bit off the beaten track to enjoy the true beauty of the place.

Almost all attractions are open now but most want pre bookings, including most of the boat trips, so plan a day or two in advance.

You can also do watersports at Windermere. Sure there are other places too that would cater for it.

Paddleboarding is all the rage at the moment but recon wind surfing would be fun too if you haven't done it before. A lesson - rather than just a hire if you are novices.

I did a bit of paddleboarding in Austria - harder than it looks!

Harder as in difficult to do? Or physically demanding?

Never done it - but looks (from the shore) as if the hardest thing is pumping the thing up. (Hence my Qn!)

Enjoy it - lovely up there.

If you like boats and trains, get a boat from windamere and then carry on by steam train (assuming its open).

Not sure what you mean by pumping the thing up, it's not inflatable! No, the co-ordination to get the thing moving without falling in is the hardest part. It looks so effortless when you see a pro speeding across the water, but building up the left/right motion from a standing start takes some doing at first. Quite tiring on the arms too.

It’s balance, core stability is important. Pretty easy kneeling but I struggled with standing.

One other option for the OP is going to Grizedale Forest and hiring a mountain bike. Some decent trails there is at the easier end of the scale.

Maybe not for the OP (quite far from Kendal) but Whinlatter has much better trails than Grizedale if you haven’t been.

I don't know if I'm due a whoosh here but your joke didn't land if so. Paddleboarding is paddling on a board - much like a surfboard.

There are portable ones that fit in a bag and are then inflated. The ones I see at Alton water are probably more inflatable than the hard ones.

Makes transporting and storage much easier I guess.

Does look fun (apart from inflating them) and am tempted to try it out before too long.

Coniston, apart from the fell walking is a quaint small town and has the Black Bull pub and brewery.

Keswick is a drive / bus but I much prefer to Windermere / Ambleside - in the other direction Applebys a decent place (don't worry Appleby fairs not on!!!)

Cartmel, although no racing on (no crowds anyway) - great Cake shops and Sticky Toffee Pudding

If your wanting to trek to the coast, St Bees is the best place...

enjoy

Look em up on amazon. They’re genuinely inflatable.
