Has Ipswich escaped Tier 3? 11:58 - Dec 17 with 3559 views | Steve_M | Looks like it, this isn't the only list of changes I've seen: Not entirely sure that's the right decision, no doubt Tom Rhyming Slang was lobbying against it.

Marginal constituency plus greater Ipswich falls into several other Tory constituencies.

Has Ipswich escaped Tier 3? on 12:49 - Dec 17 with 2534 views | pointofblue | Probably because the rest of Suffolk is relatively low - in reality it should be Ipswich in Tier 3 and the rest of the county in Tier 2. As said, full scale lockdown coming in January.

What are the odds that rhyming slang will claim this as a victory for himself and say that all the Labour tier 3 areas are full of cultural marxists

So I have a question for you, and I'm not going to be judgemental on the answer, but if someone wants a table inside your pub, do you check that they are a. from the same household? b. not from a tier 3 area? or do you just assume that anyone that comes is " honest"? Looking jealously from Manchester, where I've forgotten what its like to go to the pub at all.

I don't think it's the fact it's marginal - just more that Suffolk as a whole is fine and difficult to do 'just' Ipswich

I went and sat in a Dalston pub garden the other night, orderred a plate of roast potatoes for the night and proceeded to freeze my bollox off. It was my first trip to the pub in months, but tbh, it was missing something. The pub had setup shelter, screens and heaters, but all just felt a little wrong, dangerous and above all, cold! The choice is gone now we're in tier 3 anyway, but I wouldn't have been in a rush to head back even if it was possible. [Post edited 17 Dec 2020 13:39]

To be honest - going to the pub is not why I wanted out of tier 3. I actually just wanted to be able to have a couple of mates round in the back garden. Get the chimenea going, and see someone other than the wife! 5 months of extra restrictions in Manchester are starting to wear thin.

Can't blame you for that - banning the back garden/fire/mates thing seems ultra harsh imho. Feel for you lot up there - they should have given you a breather.

We ask and are as thorough as possible. This is the problem - we’re reliant on honest people but also not to be grouped with the pubs that clearly couldn’t give a shYt. All I’d say is - we have space , the pub is well ventilated, we have a large covered outside area for groups of 6, we clean everything all the time. Customers are being watched, and are watching each other, masks are being worn. This does not happen at home and the same customers that attempt to break the rules in a pub will clearly not be worried about what they do at home, without all the above. There’s been a study in the Netherlands showing that rates go up when pubs and restaurants close. France has closed bars and restaurants and the rate has carried on upwards. I have about 7 uni students that want to come back to work here - 6 of them have had COVID at uni. 6 of my daughters class have had it. No one from my pub has had it.

SOunds great - all the hospitality venues I have seen or frequented over the past 6 months have been like you - really well organised, safe, and still a nice experience. I still don't understand why pubs and restaurants are being scapegoated for this. The idea that me and the Mrs can't go to a pub, but can have 2 other complete households staying over for 5 days is a bit ridiculous. Good luck, hope you are able to stay open and stay safe.

Peterborough, where cases are a lot higher than the rest of the county has been singled out in Cambs. So it can done.

But Peterborough borders onto Tier 3 areas to the North in South Kesteven and South Holland There isn't anywhere within 50 miles of Ipswich which is in Tier 3, so to draw a tiny circle around it and leave Babergh, Mid Suffolk, East Suffolk, West Suffolk, Tendring, Colchester etc as Tier 2 just wouldn't work The only area singled out like that in the country is Portsmouth, but that is coastal and all the surrounding areas have gone into it. Ipswich can't be done without bringing Suffolk in with it, because 'Greater Ipswich' is 3 different authorities that would all need to go with it
