Whats the average age of an Ipswich Fan? 08:55 - Jan 8 with 1726 views | Pippin1970 | Taking into account people remembering the glory years of 70s and early 80s. Then the George Burley era and then we slowly into decline. So basically the question of age through the turnstile and hopefully attracting new fans?
Whats the average age of an Ipswich Fan? on 08:59 - Jan 8 with 1694 views | hype313 | Been a pretty tough sell for the last 15 years to attract younger fans, however, I was pleasantly surprised when my son had his birthday party at Goals and 8 of the 9 were all wearing Ipswich kits, one was wearing Everton but his dad is a scouser so that's fair enough, and it's hardly glory seeking being a Toffee.

Yeah I know what you mean by scousers. All my wife's side are from Liverpool trying to convert me to Liverpool FC. It will never happen lol.

Much more to do now than when we had "jumpers for goalposts etc". Also the price of football has turned it from a minor outlay fifty years ago to a major spend, especially for larger familes. In the wider community, again, in spite if Sky-sized hype, the F.A. Cup, for example, is not only not on the bigger team's radar, it barely registers with the general public unless you live in somewhere such as Needham Market that suddenly makes it into Cup. and draws a plum tie. As an older fan I can count in handfuls the people I meet who say "yeah, I used to follow them a long time ago, but I haven't got down there for years now". And, for reasons already stated, they're not being replaced. Town have done really well to still command 15000 when the product is so dire - and that's the thing: in today's world it is "a product" among many, and no longer a birthright. Whats the average age of an Ipswich Fan? on 09:28 - Jan 8 with 1613 views | bournemouthblue | For anyone under 25, it must be a seriously hard sell, I fear we have lost a generation of fans potentially I'd imagine it must be in the 40's?

Survey respondents might be unrepresentative, but that'd tally with the general picture where season ticket holders are getting older (and more middle class) at most football clubs.

Another aspect to this is that you have to be reasonably established and comfortably off to afford to spend £400 a year (plus perhaps as much again in ancillary costs - drink, food, transport) on a hobby.

Whats the average age of an Ipswich Fan? on 10:12 - Jan 8 with 1509 views | Bluefish | I became a fan in the mid 80s when we were struggling after Sir Bob and before Burley. My early years were predominantly under Duncan and none of my family were ipswich supporters. My grandad was a big arsenal fan and my dad wasn't into football, oddly he now has a soft spot for norwich (i think to annoy me) and Leicester (because. They are now localish and won the league against the odds). I suppose the difference is premier league football isnmore accessible these days but I still grew up surrounded by man u, Liverpool and arsenal back then Success shouldn't play a part, quite simply you should default to your local team. I do appreciate we have a large following of 45-50 year olds though that weren't local

Agree you should support your local team. When I first started going regularly in the mid 1960s all my school mates who liked football supported the Town without a second thought. The only one who didn't, he supported Man Utd only because his family had moved from Manchester to Ipswich. It only cost about 2/- (10p) to get in so we went together as a gang. Totally different world today where most kids go with parents or other older relatives. That's assuming they don't support one of the big Premier League teams that they see on Sky on week. I made sure my son supported the Town by telling him some bloody great lies about how great we were and how much success he would see in the future. Much easier to do that in the 1980s than it is now!

Flip side of all this is that pre-covid, football league attendances were on the up. 2018-19 was the highest total attendance for the EFL since 1959!
