For me, the obvious currently employed candidate is David Artell. Crewe punch above their weight, relative to budget, recruit well, have an established pattern of play, play on the front foot and play attractive stuff.
Obviously Michael Appleton, Karl Robinson, John Coleman and Darren Moore also all doing an excellent job in this division, although, you'd presumably have to chuck a lot of cash at them to consider abandoning their current promotion chases. |  |

Of course, but any manager currently employed will cost compensation and we all know if ME can cut corners and do things as cheaply as possible that’s the route he’ll pursue, that’s why we are in a mess and not just on the pitch. On the plus side, there’s a few out of work managers whose stock is still high, but the challenge is whether ME can actually appoint any of them. | |

If we are going to postulate on employed managers, Nigel Clough would be a decent shout.
Currently at Mansfield, they finished 21st in L2 last year, hadn't won a game this season before he came in. Beat Sunderland in his first game in charge and have won 10 out of his 20 matches as manager. That is some turn around.
Won't happen of course, he's only been there since November, he seems to prefer to stay in that area and unlikely tht ME would pay compo. But as a hypothetical employed manager, he is one I would consider. |  |
