Biden has gone for it again 23:33 - May 5 with 1624 views | StokieBlue | He's stated he supports the waiving of IP rights for C19 vaccines so that the poorer nations of the world can get vaccinated. This is clearly a massive move and one I really didn't expect from the US but Biden is really changing the game with regards to US policy. Seems to already be quite a big push back against this decision and not just from the usual suspects in the US. SB

He hadn’t done this at that point. Agree with the OP this is a very positive move. Fair play to him and well done.

AZ aren't making any profit out of the vaccine during the pandemic though - it's being sold at cost price whilst the WHO declares C19 a pandemic (which will be years probably) and even after that it's going to continue to be sold at cost price to developing nations so profit doesn't seem to have been their main aim. Totally different for the US manufacturers of course who are charging 20 USD+ a shot or whatever it is. Fully understand the arguments against but if it can allow greater production and more distribution to poorer countries it's going to be a good thing - at the moment it's 1 in 4 people vaccinated in rich western countries and 1 in 500 in poorer countries and that is where the mutant strains are going to come from. Raw materials are an issue but if production is increased then supply chains often follow. Either way Biden is certainly taking things in a different direction in the US. SB

Initial development was funded by IK government, Astra Zenica came on board later. Pretty sure both UK and EU were against the proposal but presumably will now change their stance.

Biden has gone for it again on 08:59 - May 6 with 1198 views | homer_123 | If you look deeper into his policies (such as the Rescue Package) - there's way more in there than many had predicted and also what 'safe Joe' was assumed to be doing. Poorer families could be receiving $3,000 per child per annum for example - that's a significant chunk of money and is predicted to lift millions of youngsters out of poverty. It's going way further than Obama ever did (think Biden is on record as saying that Obama didn't go far enough). The plans he has for infrastructure is also hugely substantive, potentially creating millions of job for Americans and building/ improving the basics within the US which have been allowed to deteriorate over the years (bridges and roads). In addition, in an effort to create more equity, if you look closely, it also covers things like improved digital access as well. We are talking 'trillions' of dollars of investment. Anyone thinking that Biden was simply going to hold the reigns until a younger incumbent comes in has been misguided to say the least.

I think it's possible that because he is likely to be a one-term president (mainly due to age) he can push through these policies without worrying about whether people will vote for him in the next election. He's doing some really good stuff. SB

This is really what needs to happen on our shores too. Our infrastructure is crumbling around us and more and more kids fall into poverty. Yet our government continue to cut budgets or invest in white elephant projects such as HS2. This is the kind of spending that would help the economy bounce back much quicker and would benefit everyone.

There's a lesson here for the cultists of the Dear Leader. Just because someone isn't on-the-face radical, doesn't mean they WON'T be. You have to actively pitch at more people than the Che-Guavara-poster-and-radical-beat-poetry set.

He's off to a flyer to be fair. That's not to say that there isn't still work to be done, but Phil threatened Paz with a ban for a reason - anyone denying that there have been major actions since Biden came to power is just trolling. Not that he will read it, but I'm leaving this handy reference list here for Paz. It sets out what has and hasn't been achieved by Biden since his Presidency began. It doesn't cover covid response though (which has been a massive success in its own right). There's a lot on there that boils down to treating everyone fairly, respectfully and without discrimination - so it's no wonder Paz is upset about how it's going. https://madison.com/news/national/govt-and-politics/president-joe-bidens-first-1 [Post edited 6 May 2021 12:06]

For the first time, I almost wish that we could become the next US State! Biden is doing an amazing job... and they're leaning diplomatically on UK (we didn't decide unilaterally to accept proper diplomatic status for the EU!).

Biden has gone for it again on 13:21 - May 6 by 26_Paz | I got in trouble for using the term ‘drain the swamp’ which was admittedly a juvenile attempt to get a reaction out of you. This doesn’t mean I am banned from making serious comment on Biden policies when they are brought up. |
You were busted for trolling. You've never made a serious comment in your life. You're only here to try and wind people up. You claim otherwise, but that just makes you either a troll or an idiot. Pick one. There's no point downvoting me Paz. You can't get away with lying when I can post Phil's actual post from the other day. [Post edited 6 May 2021 13:37]
