Anybody else hoping for some random overseas signings? 13:30 - May 10 with 4518 views | STYG | I'd be more than happy to add the likes of Verdaine Oliver, Callum Connolly, Wes Burns etc to the squad and am sure we will be looking at standout performers at this level or squad players from the division above, young enough to drop down and be stars. But wouldn't it be great to just have some out of nowhere signings. Czech centre half. Dutch winger. The maestro at some Bundesliga 2 club that just missed out on promotion. It would be a lovely sign that Cook, The Three Lions, Ashton between them have a proper scouting network in place ready to hit the ground running as these won't be Skard or Malarcyk type punts. Proper scouted players. You think Leicester got Mahrez for £400k and sold him for £60m. There is an absolute wealth of players across Europe that would, even at a League One club, increase their wages, play for a bigger club, put themselves on the radar of bigger clubs here and could be huge stars at this level and the one above. Would love it if we went down that route to a degree. Not a whole team at once. But a couple of carefully picked gems.

Anybody else hoping for some random overseas signings? on 13:33 - May 10 with 2531 views | tractordownsouth | Vadaine Oliver is rubbish. He's had 1 good season, before that he was struggling for goals in League 2 and the Conference. Watched him play for York City a few times and he wasn't good enough for them.

Anybody else hoping for some random overseas signings? on 13:35 - May 10 with 2504 views | StokieBlue | That would be good but as Footers said, there are post-Brexit work permit issues. As for Verdaine Oliver, I don't see why people keep citing him. He played well against us but he's 29 and has a career of not scoring goals at lower levels that L1. He isn't what we need. would they have to have national team involvement or some such to have a sufficiently high profile to be allowed to move in a post-Brexit scenario, or am I thinking of something else?

Not sure on the ins and outs, to be honest with you. Think how much a player earns comes into consideration, which is why it's still possible higher up the pyramid.

No striker is guaranteed to carry on goal scoring form . Look at Jackson. Oliver does suit a 4 2 3 1 however [Post edited 10 May 2021 13:38]

This is the opposite though, he's never scored goals except for this season and is 29. I would argue he's everything we don't need. SB

Just like playing CM0102 which I have been enjoying recently since it's Freeware. I had forgotten Rushden and Diamonds once existed and were pretty loaded at the lower league level. It is however most annoying when you find a ridiculous player but are unable to sign them due to work permit issues. SB

How does he suit a 4 2 3 1? Yes, he's 6ft 2....but his hold up and link up play is 'OK' at best, he's not prolific in front of goal either. I'm struggling to see how he 'suits' us?

Waghorn was laughed at when he came to ipswich. He turned out fine. To many players get written off to early

Context. Aren't we looking to build for the future and to push on into the Championship? For further context he's been rubbish at a lower level for his entire career. Wanting him because he scored a few this year isn't really the way to go about things in my opinion. SB

We dont know what sort of player we are going for. We might be in the market for OK players. If Norwood is to be seem as our main striker an oliver isnt a bad option.

Waghorn wasn't laughed at all. The majority could see that he was a steal as soon as we got him (and before). He was 26 when he joined us, from a successful spell at Rangers. There's no comparison here. [Post edited 10 May 2021 14:01]

As I mentioned to Homer. It all depends what the plan is Are we replacing Norwood. Then a piggott type would be better If we are to see Norwood as first choice then an Oliver would be ideal back up.

But you said he suits a 4 2 3 1, how does he suit that? (It's a genuine question, I can't see how he does, so interested to know what makes you confident he suits that role.) [Post edited 10 May 2021 14:02]

They offered to drive him down to us. (Fans) Hed scored 27 goals in 2 seasons at rangers. Before that he scored 20 goals in 5 years prior to joining rangers. [Post edited 10 May 2021 14:03]

Same with Pigott - a perennial lower league striker having the season of his career. We need better.

I think we had half the League of Ireland players through the door when MM was here! But I agree, eggers, we need Dutchmen back at the club.

Not sure his Rangers spell was successful? Agree though, no one laughed at the idea of signing him when we were all half expecting a trialist from the Bulgarian third division reserve league under 19s.

Strength. Ability to hold the line. Gets in the box as often as possible. Solid heading attributes. Reminds me of Hawkins but more agile. Hes clearly not a star otherwise he would be playing higher than league 1. But I think people need to be realistic of where we are as a club right now. It's one thing wanting to see a championship ready squad being made but I dont see that as realistic throughout the squad.
