He's got history, that's the trouble. He's got a nudge from the second guy, but was already well on his way down by then. Debatable whether the first contact was enough to send him down. He was obviously looking for it, but the laws of the game and way they're interpreted mean those are often pens, and in that context I think it was too. The pace he was running at probably makes the ref give it - it wouldn't have been easy to stay on his feet even if he'd tried. But it's soft and I can understand why he gets grief. |  |

Would say Kane should have had a penalty in the second half but thought Sterling was fouled - I think both cases were VAR would have backed the referee, even if his decision was different. [Post edited 7 Jul 2021 23:03]

Exactly, they committed 21 fouls to our 10. Many, as you say, were cynical, breaking up 2v1s, 3v2s, etc. Made their own bed there. [Post edited 8 Jul 2021 0:28]

And Maguire did get a yellow when it wasn't deserved. Another manager might have subbed him with that in mind, and things could then have gone differently. We'd not had the rub of the green for most of the game. If VAR hadn't been involved I'd have wondered if it was an 'adjuster'! |  |

Indeed, I think the big game nerves got to the red tonight - especially when the crowd were loud, he seemed to get very unconvincing during the loudest parts of the game. | |
