It was soft, but I really couldn't give a monkey's

We've gone out on tough decisions enough times for this softish penalty not to feel sweet. let's not forget the free kick the Danes scored from was not exactly a stonewall free kick, and the decision not to give the earlier penalty decision was baffling.

Indeed, I think the big game nerves got to the red tonight - especially when the crowd were loud, he seemed to get very unconvincing during the loudest parts of the game.

I don't think he'll be getting the final. He certainly wasn't the best of the refs in these finals, which have been notable for quality reffing.

Was it soft? Yes probably, but there was upper body contact.

I though the freekick for their goal was soft too to be honest. On balance the best team won, 2-1 was just about a fair result between 2 good sides.

Amazing achievement to reach the final, bring on Italy.

Never a pen.

I'm happy we are in the final but it was a dive. Funny how people try to justify it. Imagine that decision going the other way.

True, which is why I also enjoyed the ref on the ITV panel saying he'd give it too.

Oh well, I still wasn't happy that Kane didn't get a penalty earlier for a much clearer tangle - Karma came full circle in the end.

TBF though, we've been fk'd over enough in our lifetime by s*it referees decisions in the big Tournos... so if it was soft - we were owed one.

This is exactly where I am. Its about time we got a break after all these years. People can wang on all they like about soft penalty. I couldn’t give a monkeys.

We deserved to win last night regardless and given how Denmark were out on their feet in extra time, England may well have scored in that last 15 minutes of extra time anyway.

It was a clear penalty - frustrating this narrative building about it being a dodgy penalty.

If that had gone against us it would have been the same, you can't commit and make contact like that in the box.

Poulsen really stuck out for me. Did it about 4 times and didn't get a yellow.

Delaney must have had 5 - the foul on Kane for the FK should have been a yellow, then a minute later he did a cynical one - 2 more in the second half and then went off injured.

A mate had a bet builder and last part for it to come in for a few quid was Delaney getting booked so he was getting very frustrated!

Oh yeah I was amazed when the one for Kane wasn't a yellow. Right next to the box, slide tackle, didn't get the ball at all.

Also as it turns out, the free kick might not have been legal anyway because of the shenanigans with the wall.

the pictures say different. ha

You see they don't! IMO he has caught but the thigh of 24. Soft but did get caught.

If you want pictures to show evidence of a penalty I refer you to the case of Harry Kane. Clearly nicks the ball ahead of Danish player who then catches and brings him down. That was a pen and should have been given more than the other. All evens itself out as often gets said.

Indeed, I'm not sure what the argument against it is, both defenders fouled him.

In addition to everything else in this thread Denmark were lucky to get away with that back pass right at the start of the game. Ball was clearly poked towards Schmeichel and he just fell on it and picked it up.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

It was a penalty because the referee gave a penalty and this was backed by VAR.

Fair to say it's not a penalty you'd usually get, I think? It's a little nibble which is soft enough that Sterling rides it, followed by a gentle clash of hips. You'd be fortunate to get it as a foul elsewhere on the pitch, let alone as a penalty (where, for reasons unacknowledged in the laws of the game, referees always apply the rules differently...).

I agree with the latter, but I think it would have been a free-kick elsewhere on the pitch, although without too much certainty with last night's referee who was very hit and miss on his decision-making, and denied England an earlier penalty which looked pretty much as obvious as they come to me. Thought the Italy-Spain referee was far superior.

Had Kane been given a Penalty earlier, I doubt that one would have been called.

However, the ref was lazer focussed on the play. He had a view that none of us did while watching on TV.

I agree regarding the referee, was a little bizarre with some of his decisions. Soft freekick for their goal, Kane incident was a more obvious penalty to me. Harry Maguire booking was odd as well.

I like Felix Brych, he did the Ukraine game for us as well, think he was very good.
