“George Edmundson has agreed a deal to leave Rangers.”

“Record Sport understands the defender has signed a three-year contract with an unnamed club.”

With Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, Fil Helander, Niko Katic and Jack Simpson currently all in contention for two starting berths, the expectation is that another centre-half will leave this Summer — manager Steven Gerrard was on record last year that he would not be going forward with six options — including Edmundson.

The former Oldham man was also involved with the covid breach incident last season, along with Jordan Jones, which was a set-back on and off the pitch for his Rangers prospects.

Confirmation will follow very soon on this story.

Poll: player of the season so far?

Would be extremely happy with this, if true. Despite only being 23, he’s had some Championship experience already, is 6”2 and built like a brick shîthouse, would add some much needed physical presence to our back line.

Was excellent with Oldham few years back, at just 21 y/o as well. Played RCB for them the whole season, but all his goals for Rangers have come from LCB. Looks to be capable of both sides of the defence.

Another played identified by Cook who has already got Championship games under their belt, but at a young age where they are seen as 2nd string for those sides. Harper, Penney, Coulson; all featured a good amount in the Champ, taking the drop down to L1.

Something I noticed from the game yesterday, Woolfenden looked really comfortable in the LCB spot when the ball was at his feet, and he doesn't usually play there. Was the RCB alongside both Chambers and McGuinness last two seasons.

Would be an excellent signing.

Won't pretend to have heard of him, but others seem to rate him.

The question is, is he ready for the step up in quality from the SPL to League 1?!

Poll: Would Lambert have acheived better results than Cook if given the same resources

Would like him and Lewis Gibson as a pair.

Physically he looks in incredible shape.

Weren’t we linked with him at Oldham before Rangers paid money for him.

Poll: Would love to know the opinions on here now of Lambert genuinely?

"All his goals have come from LCB".

Why would it make a difference which side of CB he is playing as to how many goals he scores? Surely that statistic is merely coincidental or indicates that the player who played LCB was preferred to him as an attacking set piece target; nothing more, nothing less.

Apparently Peterborough showed interest early in the transfer window as well. When asked about interest in Edmundson, Darragh McAnthony replied 'not anymore no.'

Good sign if he is being targeted by Championship sides, similar to Fraser, Burns and Pigott. Hopefully we get lucky again. If its between us and Derby, we've already got the strongest chance with their embargo situation forcing only loans.

Something we've missed massively has been a vocal leader at the heart of the defence. Think that was one of the biggest issues we faced when Chambers had to move to right back. You need someone willing to be volatile and aggressive through their own voice. I'd expect Evans to be vocal in the heart of the midfield, but can't recall how Woolfenden and Nsiala led from the back. Wilson and McGuinness didn't have that in them either.

Sure. I have no idea how much physicality Cook seems to want. Missing out on Crooks for Fraser is one thing, but if he drops Woolf to compensate for it there that would be odd.
