Brexit just keeps on giving.... on 09:11 - Aug 25 by Lord_Lucan
Unfortunately Stevey, Brexit isn't the main problem - although it hasn't help.
How so?
Am unaware of shortages of food in our European neighbours Lucers.
Granted Covid has played it's part in the lack of lorry driver tests last year, but again, that would have been no different in Europe, yet they don't have the same issues as we do...
imagine people having to assemble their own pigs in blankets. we might as well cancel christmas now.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Yep, no empty shelves or driver shortages over here.
Double whammy on this one isn't it. As a result of Brexit, but not inevitable if they weren't embarking on their hostile environment to foreigners. They could easily add HGV drivers to the list of priority workers allowing EU drivers to temporarily fill the gap while we trained more UK drivers.
I suspect they will u-turn, as they usually do. They need to be seen to keep the swivel-eyed loons in the ERG happy on one level, but reality will force their hand.

That's really been the problem all along. Not so much Brexit itself, but the way it's been conducted.

If only someone had warned them about this, for years beforehand.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Indeed. None of these seems like it should be a surprise. An already suffering sector, a reliance on EU drivers and a xenophobic, exclusionist border policy was obviously a recipe for trouble. As alluded to by Badger, the haulage industry were warning of the impacts long before we had settled or relationship with the EU and implemented our post EU regulations (many of the checks and processes around this still haven't been implemented apparently). If they'd spend a bit more time focusing on the issues rather than pandering to the ERG and their support base we could be in a better situation on any number of issues like this.
