i'm struggling to see how you can present the remainer strategy following the referendum result as a success. in parliament, and supported whole heartedly by people like you, they produced a final outcome which was far worse than could have been achieved by accepting the result and backing may. they also gave boris a stonking great majority. the belief that they were going to change the referendum outcome rates as one the biggest most delusional failings in recent political history. and you thing i'm the myopic one. jeez.

After the referendum loss, the various Remain strategies were always going to fail in the short term - even if Remain had won the referendum, there would still have been pressure for another one, and another one, until the UK would eventually vote to leave - the Big Money was always behind Brexit, and wasn't going to give up.

The hard Brexit we have is by necessity gradually being softened, small step by small step to reduce the consequential social and economic impacts, I reckon we will spend the next 10 years trying to get back a lot of what we lost when we left the EU.....and it will cost the UK many billions more than if we had still been members of the EU...

The Remainers should have played the long game....

Again, it's the same one-sided narrative from you that you've been peddling for years. I disagree with your myopic take.

I said at the time that remainer MP's were gambling on defeating May's deal and forcing a second referendum, whilst the ERG and hardline brexiteer MP's were gambling on defeating May's deal and crashing out of the EU with "No Deal".

Both sides lost. and we are where we are.

Double whammy on this one isn't it. As a result of Brexit, but not inevitable if they weren't embarking on their hostile environment to foreigners. They could easily add HGV drivers to the list of priority workers allowing EU drivers to temporarily fill the gap while we trained more UK drivers.

I suspect they will u-turn, as they usually do. They need to be seen to keep the swivel-eyed loons in the ERG happy on one level, but reality will force their hand.

There is a shortage of .hGV drivers in Europe.

I largely agree, but the idea of taking no deal off the table is arguably the most idiotic idea I have ever heard in my sad sorry life.

I mean, it's almost as stupid as evacuating the army from the country you are occupying before evacuating the civilians.

There's a kernel of truth there, though. Leaving in any form was always worse than remaining, however had we retained membership of the single market and customs union that would have significantly limited the damage too us economically and politically.

Nonsense, and why should Barnier care if you drive your car into the river.

If you went into a car showroom would you say "I am going to haggle with you on the price of this vehicle but you should be aware that the company I work for have insisted that I buy it"

The ERG number less than 25 MP’s. The are 650 MP’s sitting in the commons. Pre December 2019 there was a remain majority in the commons. They could have defeated the ERG and supported the May deal.

When May’s deal was defeated she even gave the commons a chance to vote in a course of action that could command a majority. I think there were six or seven options put forward but our elected representatives couldn’t agree amongst themselves which one to support.

It’s who they represent GB. The whole of the British establishment is dancing to the tune played by very few and they even more brazen than ever. With the amount of money and power at stake we’re never going to see those people walk away from it.

The corruption is trickled down across those morally redundant enough to join in, it makes us look as weak and backward as many failed nations of the previous century.

But the car dealer will still be able to sell the car to someone else. And the next dealership is 200 miles away. And you'll be out of a job because they wouldn't sell it to you for less than cost, which is what you were trying to negotiate. And then you wilfully shat your own pants on the way out, just to show them.

h ?

'no deal' was NEVER on the table - the EU knew just as the UK knew it was not a feasible negotiating chip

Without a deal, the UK would have had to default to WTO rules, which even a cursory glance at would have told you that would be economic suicide,

That is why NO, I repeat NO, other countries * trade solely under WTO rules as you appear to be wanting. Countries have preferential trade arrangements and trade defence measures with neighbouring countries and are members of localised trading blocs.

The idea that UK would willingly join pariah states such as N. Korea and Iran and be at the whim of every tin pot country is patently absurd - which is why the nonsense was dropped.

Of course, incidents like this will continue to flare up, highlighting the sheer stupidity of the belief that you can isolate one country from progress and have it turn inward. However, the sad reality is that the UK will adapt, as manufacturing moves out along with investment. Barriers, costs and delays will make business in the UK less competitive.

There will be no levelling up. Just as there was never going to be a 'free for all' for UK fishermen, or hordes of red wall brexiteers flocking south to fill the vacancies left by naughty 'job stealing' foreigners. Remember the much trumpeted 'pick for Britain' campaign rolled out by the Tories, which was quietly dropped a few weeks later ?

Brexiteers will continue to whine, continue to make excuses (lies) and continue to claim it is all someone else's fault ........................... that they, errr.... voted for Brexit.

* bar a few rogue states

You have no idea if no deal would have happened, none.

Personally I never thought it would come to a no deal but it had to be on the table, anyone who thinks it should have been taken off the table is quite simply, clueless.

For 'no deal' to be an option, it had to have at least some form of possibility.

As said, falling back on WTO rules was never an option - have a read up on the consequences. Or maybe ask yourself why no other country trades solely on WTO rules.

It really is that simple - it was merely something to over excite the simple minded (brexiteers).

Remember a similar threat - not to pay the divorce bill. They need us..., easiest deal in history etc

Absolutely. Except they lied to us about the Norway deal. This was always going to end in disaster capitalism and anti-immigration populism.

“Look over there at those brown people!!! (while we rob you blind)” – I’d like to have seen that on a bus. Then again 40% of us would have voted for it.
