Just saying...

Poll: What was in Wes Burns' imaginary cup of tea ?

Jack Ross - Hibernian top of Scottish Premiership this morning on 09:34 - Aug 30 with 1674 viewspointofblue

Just realised Sunderland sacked Ross after finish 5th in his first season before holding a record of W5 D4 L2 in the second season. Thought he must have done worse than that to be fired.

Because he did so well at Sunderland.

It's totally possible that he's a good manager in Scotland and not elsewhere. See Unai Emery in Spain.

He is intense - which is what we needed at the time, and still need now. He hasn't turned Hibs around overnight, the first season was quite average, last season you could see things coming together and this start is not surprising. So far so good but as with Sunderland I suspect Town (as a club as and as supporters) would have had neither the patience for his purist approach nor the stomach for his unforgiving assessment of his own players (which he manages to do without overt public criticism of them.)

From what I gather he had the Hibs players playing with their hearts

I'd put money on Ross not tonking things up leading to a relegation like cyclone Hurst.

“We”!?

Are you a fellow Hibby, Zombers? Didn’t realise that but great to hear.

Yep, JR has done well. As you say, it’s been slow and steady but that’s a good thing in the SPL where non-Old Firm sides can burn brightly and fizzle out within months.

The 'we' is Town as in what Town needed at the time - I'm a Ross County fan when in Scotland but the Malky Mackay reign is testing me...

You’re right. I’m reading it properly now. I got too excited too quickly ☺️

Putting aside Mackay’s very dubious history, I would have thought he’d be a good appointment.

Think Sunderland board/fans were unimpressed with negative, dour football.

Too many draws, matching up opposition etc etc

Might explain why Evans went for Hurst - Ross may have been seen as a younger version of Mick.

Jack Ross certainly was the one I wanted most that season. Not to say he'd have done any better overall - but he would have done things better than Hurst did, that's for sure.

The start is not surprising but they really were terrible last year, especially in that cup final. Dreadful stuff. He would've done better than Hurst of course, but I would do better than him. No point in this 'Just saying' because it didn't happen and he went elsewhere and was ultimately unsuccessful.

They only lost 5 games the whole season before as well - just drew too many. But 85 points and 2 Wembley defeats is a pretty good season for Sunderland who had just suffered back to back relegations

In fairness the commentator on 'Sportscene' described their win over Livingston at the weekend as 'a tough watch', so the similarity to McCarthy doesn't end with getting great results out of scant resources. But I stand by the statement on his intense approach, it wouldn't have surprised me to have seen us scrape a play-off promotion to the Premiership within two or three seasons if he had been appointed. We might even have managed a Burnleyesque prolonged spell of approaching mid-table security.

Exactly - the point is that Evans appointed Hurst (which was welcomed by many Town fans) & he turned out to be dreadful, although appointing Lambert in a panic was probably even worse.
