Makes our pathetic attempt at trying to stay in the Championship around a similiar time of the year seem even worse. We even had Bolton with us who were going months without paying players yet still finished above us

I know Derby aren’t popular on here, but I’d like to see them stay up. A 21 point deduction and they still believe they can do it, that was a terrific comeback from them to get that point today. You’re right though Hipster, it makes our attempt to stay up look utterly pathetic.

They are certainly showing fight and we certainly didn't. The Bolton comparison is very fair. They were a complete mess and showed no real fight and we couldn't even keep pace with them.

I still think (and hope) Derby will go down. The points punishment is only really a punishment if it does change the outcome of their season. They would be comfortably mid-table without it and finishing just above the relegation zone is little different in outcome to finish 7th-12th.

Agreed. I fully expected them to roll over, especially with a fire sale apparently happening in Jan where most players will probably moving on. Fair play to them and their coaching team

We never made an attempt to stay up. It was pitiful. What exactly the players and the manager was doing, goodness only knows. Working for an owner for whom mediocrity, decline and decay were perfectly ok, providing it didn’t cost him too much, I suppose.

Derby will be fine and even if they lose this battle what Rooney and his players have done does them credit. Yes, they’ve had an annoying sense of entitlement over recent years, but they’re a proper club and most of their supporters are ok.

Yeah, but those performances though.

Absolutely not. They’ve not been punished enough and any chance they don’t go down is them getting away with it again. They should have been made an example of, like so many others.

It is academic but I think that is a little harsh on ME. I believe he paid a significant bonus to MM for keeping us up. Whether he believed Lambert could do the same and whether he was offered anything similar who knows?

At the end of the day ME's ownership of us was disastrous. However, I don't think that was because he wanted us to fail. It does make me wonder just how different running a football club must be to his other business interests.

Our relegation in August in 2018-19 was utterly shameful. The standard that season was so low it took an age to confirm, when a few smart draws and holding on for 1-0 wins would have easily kept us up, but Evans was determined to instil a footballing philosophy over results and sacrificed our status in insisting the club play with a certain footballing culture, absolute proof that the man wasn’t fit to run a club, as for Lambert he should have known better and waiting until last year to call out Evans on his crud. What some will do for a job eh? Ruined his reputation over nothing.

It was all entirely Evans fault, as is the reason we’re flagging in League One. He killed this club.

Oh no, of course he didn’t want us to fail. Bad wording on my part. That’d make no sense. Bobbing along in mediocrity keeping costs to a bare minimum come what may was what he was after, with a sprinkling of hope that he might hit the jackpot with a managerial choice like he nearly did MM. Relegation? Well, income down, but costs down so all the same to him. We will never know the truth of that opinion thanks to Covid.

The brutal fact is the club was hollowed out and was rotting away under Evans’ incompetence and neglect. For Goodness sake, a five year contract for a Lambert? hurst? Jewell? Not a penny piece spent on the infrastructure. Thank goodness he no longer makes decisions and the sooner his name is wiped away the better.

I am still astonished that people were actively applauding those players, that manager and actively trying to claim they were enjoying getting relegated(and, at one point, getting beaten 3-0 by a Norwich side barely out of second gear) and feeble defeats.

I can only assume that it was some kind of weird Stockholm Syndrome at that point.

Thing is, Lambert was the wrong man for a relegation fight and the wrong man for 'instilling a football culture' and had been failing for the thick end of a decade. He was entirely and utterly wrong for the job.

The fact that he was allowed to get away with it by fans, local press and owner for so long is embarrassing.

Fair play to the players and coaching team for their spirit but frankly, f**k Derby as a club. The fat that their blatant attempts to bend, circumvent and ignore the rules has finally caught up with them and they're getting what they deserve.

Will be interesting to see what happens to their squad during January. You'd expect the administrator to look at trying to bring in cash.

And ME threw a lot of cash at trying to keep us up in the second half of that season, all those loans weren't cheap.

It was mind numbingly odd.

I hope our (by and large) brilliant supporters are deservedly rewarded with something good in the next few years.

Fair play, I said more than once that Blue Action deserved the player of the year award for 18/19 well over and above anyone actually on the pitch, bar maybe Trevoh Chalobah or Chambo.

And Chambo's was more for his off-pitch attempts to rally the squad in the wake of Hurst's departure.

Very true Phil, but they weren’t great either. We needed better than what they were worth to give ourselves a chance. When a very young, raw and inexperienced Trevoh Chalobah was our best player that season that tells you all you need to know.

He also trousered a fair chunk of the transfer out money before the season started didn’t he? I’m sure the accounts would give the answer to my probably baseless accusation.

Regardless, that faceless man practically destroyed our club and I can’t forgive him for that.
