Early Millwall match update 15:13 - Jul 23 with 3357 viewsunstableblue

Away kit looks good on the players

We look the Championship team, with far superior passing and movement

Wolfenden an lad Edmundson look very assured

Ladapo has a presence

Harness touch has been a bit loose

Penney just doesn’t cut it for me

We have had the ball in there half a lot… but same old issue after 13mins of not enough players forward and limited ideas in the final third

Overall quite encouraging- but need more bite

We look awful. Absolutely no presence up front. No idea who to pass to. Nobody making any good runs. Miss a playmaker.

I'll be honest, that's an amazing view on this.

Trying not to be to negative as its just a friendly. But we look completely lost.

No movement in the final third. Harness has been woeful so far. Defence playing the danger balls every 5 minutes. Ladapo standing around. Chaplin headless chicken. Burns... is he even there.

Just a friendly tho. So take my view and throw it out the window as its next week that counts.

Yes. I know its a friendly but a chance would be nice. Midfield looks flat.

Agree with this. We haven't got a clue what to do with the ball. So slow in everything we do. Haven't created a chance yet. We looked way better last season.

I haven't seen much to be encouraged by yet... we look unusually disjointed.

Millwall are obviously the Championship team.

Also, for balance, Penney has done absolutely nothing wrong. To single him out for criticism is very strange.

3 games now burns not on it. Don't think it's him, just teams knowing he's our outlet. One thing it does show. 1000% penney isn't the answer on the other side. Have given him benefit of doubt before but he's actually bad.

If only there was a player out there who is proven based on last years data to create the most attacking chances in the division but might occasionally not run enough for some and might be too expensive for others.

Hardly surprising given he’s had hardly any rest from the game over the summer . I’m expecting a sluggish start to the season from him …

Not getting disheartened as we know friendlies are mainly about fitness and minutes in the legs.

That said, I struggle to agree with your “quite encouraging” comment. - On a footballing perspective think we’ve been extremely poor, so sloppy, I’ve lost count the amount of loose passes giving the ball away.

Surprised at how many long-balls we made in that half, not what we’d got accustomed to under McKenna, especially with how physical Millwall are. Burns has been non-existent. The only two players who have come off that half with okay performances were Evans and Ladapo, in my opinion.

Hopefully getting the mistakes and sloppiness out of our system before next week, let’s not forget how organised Millwall are and how many teams struggle against them. Not that it really matters, but hoping for an improved second half!

Based on the season before we had Fraser which didn't end up well. So no possibly wouldn't make a difference. It might do. It might not. Shame he's asking for more than the club can afford otherwise we'd get to find out.

Didn't get that take or the opposite take that others have got from the first half.

Millwall look better than us (as expected) but neither side is really creating much. For us it looks like we need better up front but it is mitigated by the 3 players hardly having met each other before. Millwall's defence looks too good for us to be able to create chances (they finished 9th in the Championship last season). Would a new striker with different movement change that?

So far, a useful work out and pitch time in the legs of players. Woolf needs to learn when to get rid of the ball in defence. A mistake like that costs us nothing in pre-season, though.

Considering the amount of recruitment completed under his watch, Ashton deserves sacking if we still need Celina in order to create even the simplest of chances.

Already obvious this won't be the 11 next week. Evans well off the pace. In fact no one is staking a claim for the starter.
