From today, it feels like Ladapo and John-Jules are creators more than scorers again. Good debuts from both, but they didn't come across as being confident at converting chances which fall their way. | |

You imagined that! We only had one clear cut chance in 51 minutes. At no point did I think we were going to score. First half we were awful. Still don't really know what Chaplin is doing in the team ahead of Aluko. We don't have a striker either. | | | |

Why is it always a wish to find another striker. There's so many players in the team apart from the striker.
Why is a promotion challenging team relying on a CM with a total of 23 goals in 13 years as its goal scoring midfielder? ( that chance towards the end a criminal example of having such a level of expentency on someone with such little composure. Why we suddenly feel after 13 years he's gonna become our next Tommy Miller I don't know.
We play a striker who's better as a striker but we use him as a 10 who has minimal ball control and struggles to pass.
We have a striker who is used to playing alongside another striker and worked as a partnership, playing alone and holding the ball up with no support cast.
So many questions about this lineup it's baffling with such financial ability that we just appear to be throwing the opportunities away.
So no imo it's not another striker we need. Just play some round pegs in round holes. Play to the strengths of the players and we might flourish.

Aluko isn't prolific in the goal scoring area either but his agility and ball playing skills would create for Chaplin ( known as most natural finisher at club) and it would allow ladapo to work with Chaplin and have support for when he holds the ball up)
Aluko could then be swapped for JJ or celina who may still be coming back. Harness could then rotate with Chaplin. Leigh rotate with davis. Burns with edwards/kvy. | |

It’s only a matter of time before folk start clamouring for two up top and we get into the same, repetitive annual debate. Reality is, it’s very evident there are still gaps in this squad to fill and with the season up on us, we yet again find ourselves questioning from the outset.
Celina and Bonne are big misses for me already and with both seemingly easy picks to come back, you have to seriously question why they aren’t here as both would add value and complete the picture. 2 million for Hirst and a reported £600k - £800k for Harness? That cash would easily secure Bonne and Celina who’d fit into the system straight away. | | | |

That’s my worry, for all our dominance, we don’t have enough goals in us.
With regard to the Evans comment, he regularly pings them into the top corner in the warm up, so presumably has shown in training he takes a decent free kick. |  |

If we think back to quite a few times last season we’d create chances without really making the opposition keeper work, that wasn’t the case yesterday. Trafford had to make some decent stops in that 2nd half to keep Bolton in it and that’s a big difference. Personally, I was more heartened than actually being disappointed. Fwiw we missed one big chance (Morsy's), what we really did lack was composure with our final ball. Second half there were half a dozen occasions where we fluffed relatively straightforward passes that would've got someone in one on one. [Post edited 31 Jul 2022 8:22]

Yes and 80% of those set pieces were rubbish. He's slow and pedestrian in midfield and doesn't break play up well at all.

Exactly right. The composure just wasn’t there or we would have scored a couple in that second half. I’m getting a bit tired of people not at the game being the most vociferous and negative voices on here. | | | |
