As I see it we're 3 at the back with the ball and 4 without it *Edit - 4 defending I should say [Post edited 26 Sep 2022 14:38]

Team for Sat on 14:39 - Sep 26 with 2299 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | There is no reason to drop Evans. Pompey are a counter attack team, we are going to have lots of the ball I anticipate. Evans has been key to our high levels of possession, and has probably been our best player so far this season. I would play Jackson, Pompey have lots of pace down the flanks playing a 442, Jackson will be useful dealing with one of those wingers (I'm not convinced by TJJ if he isn't playing up top)

Team for Sat on 14:42 - Sep 26 with 2281 views | jayessess | Agree with most of that, although Harness will be well up for this one I imagine. Shame we weren't more proactive with Ball for Evans. With hindsight we might have benefited in both of the last 2.

I think people are too quick to switch up lineups off the back of a poor display or an error, of course if it is over period of time it is something you need to address. Evans for example has been terrific this season probably 80%-90% of the games this year, you don't need to replace somebody who is performing like that. The same is applicable for Edmundson, yes he made a mistake - he will know that with a sloppy pass, but his overall game yesterday was good.
Team for Sat on 15:42 - Sep 26 with 2101 views | FrimleyBlue | Other than Burns for Jackson it'll be unchanged imo. Not sure why but KM doesn't look like he's ready to give Ball or Keogh a league game. Other than that we don't really have a better 11 than yesterday's amongst the others.

I'd swap Burns for Jackson. Jackson I'd have as a supporting striker instead of Harness. His pace out wide could be key. If it doesn't go to plan in the middle against Pompey then Ball needs his chance to start in the midweek match.

If it's not going to plan in the midfield against Pompey, I'd like to see Ball come on to make a three in midfield and withdraw the right sided number 10. Then Morsy (squeezed forward and right a little) and Burns (or our advanced nominal RWB) can cover the missing 10s spaces when we're attacking. In defence we can then play almost a 5-3-2, or 5-3-1-1, albeit with the RHS a bit advanced as usual.

Jackson had one of his better games Sunday going forward, but his tracking back was dreadful.

They have good attacking players, good wingers. You can play three v the lesser teams.and get away with it, not top 6 teams. If we play with 3 at the back we won't win.

But we don't defend with just a 3, do we. When defending we can have 4, 5 or 6 with the wing backs dropping in along with at least 1 centre mid.

I'd also be interested to see Morsy with a bit more licence to roam with the safety of Ball and Evans behind him. Morsy is deceptively quite good on the ball.

They are coming to PR, in front of packed out stadium, I don't think we should be setting up to accommodate the opponent in this game. As we always do, we play to pin teams back, especially using our wingbacks. We will of course know and prepare for the threats of Bishop, Scarlett, Dale & Curtis - but they will also know the threats of Harness, Chaplin, Burns & Ladapo. We play a hybrid system anyway, which can see a back 3, 4 and 5 all being utilised within one game. [Post edited 27 Sep 2022 16:36]
