They’re dreadful, surprised Leicester aren’t attacking Williams more down the left, walking red card

They had no choice with all the loan players etc unlike cook who wanted all the changes.

...how much of the change during the closed season was down to him.

I get the impression that he wouldn't have wanted so much change, and if so you have to have some sympathy for him.

He's on thin ice now, which seems ridiculous really.

They look very much a Championship side. And a not very good one. Actually surprised how poor they are.

Look like exactly what they are - a bunch of individuals. Always needed to have a busy transfer window but at Prem level it’s so hard to try and get a whole new squad firing with players continually coming in. Seems to be zero belief or fight in the Forest team. Difficult when you’re 3 down but still.

Might have been interesting if Awoniyi had scored with that shot that hit the post, mind.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Yep they hit the post and Leicester go up the other end and score from a deflected shot, so much luck involved...

The Forest project is a disaster.

The formulae is build a high quality championship team, gel it hard, get promoted and then sprinkle a few really quality players only to get goals, etc (Norwich always fail to do this)

Not refresh most of the team and build a bloated squad of near strangers.

Having said that Cooper is a good manager, and perhaps they could settle and carve a run. But I think confidence and heads may have already gone.

Yes, it would be ludicrous. Then you’ve got Sean Dyche out of a job, a safe pair of hands and knows how to survive in the EPL, his backroom staff of Ian Woan, Steve Stone and Tony Loughlin all ex Forest players, like Dyche. Surely, they’ll give Cooper longer? I’m not convinced these are all his choice of signings either.

I don’t think they are either. The chairman owns Olympiakos who signed 3 new players this week alone ( free agents) seems he thinks best way to arrest a slump is to buy more players.

It was always going to be a disaster with the number of signings they made. They came up with a squad full of loan players but even if they'd only got 10 new players in that would have been sustainable and they wouldn't be any worse off than they are now.

To sack Cooper would be ridiculous after what he did last season but after gambling their financial future in one transfer window, they owners will probably hit the panic button quite soon if they don't improve.

Agree, he looks like the type of bloke you'd see in Screwfix selecting exactly the right screws for the job, rather than just buying all the screws in the shop and hope to find the ones that fit.

As if spending £100m+ on players isn’t enough, let’s throw in one of the highest paid managers in the league too, just for good measure. Makes sense.

Christ, they must have looked at Derby behaving insanely for the last few years and thought, fk it, let’s see if we can’t fk it up even more than they did.

I think it's a real shame. Cooper did a fantastic job and had them on such a roll since going in. They had a real togetherness and were a proper exciting, young team. They knocked Arsenal and Leicester out of the FA Cup. They needed a handful of shrewd additions not a complete overhaul of 20+ players (pissing off those that got them up in the process). I doubt Cooper had a lot of say in the signings either.

It worked for Villa recently though - I think they signed about 20 players. Some times it pays off, other times it doesn’t. Either way, it’s a very high risk strategy.

The silver lining is that whoever comes in next inherits a rich squad to mould: Gerrard, McKenna, maybe Benitez…

Villa didn’t spend as much money and a lot of their recruitment was turning loan deals into permanents (Mings, El Ghazi etc)

'unlike cook who wanted all the changes'

Yes because players' attitude had been a problem for this club for years therefore he had no choice. That group of players took us down without a fight and showed no real desire to get the club back to the Championship. Ipswich nice easy payday, disinterested and not demanding owner in Evans, life was so easy for them.

The player-power was the clubs biggest problem, bigger than Hurst, Lambert and Cook.

The Demolition Job was necessary to engrain the new culture.

For all the pelters Cook gets, we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact that he managed during a time of major transition and had a part in laying the foundations for what we have now.

Bang on !

The Demolition Job may not have taken a place if he had seen a desire and professionalism among that group. He once said about that group: 'The mood in dressing room is the same whether they win or lose'.

To think some people claim he should have been respectful to those players whom he told to go

He had no choice other than getting that amount of new players. Real shame it didn't work out for him but truly wish him all the best.
