OK, so the new job involves taking groups of foriegn tourists all round the UK, guided tours essentially. I love it! One of the common things to be done is to curate a playlist of 'best of British' songs and bands to play during the tour. I've put one together and it's almost 24 hours long played through, but it will be on shuffle for my own sanity as well as that of those on multi days tours.
All nationalities, all age groups from 6 upward, what should I include that I may have missed? We're talking rock and pop generally.
No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.
Some Beatles obviously, but also some KInks, The Jam, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys. Songs that sing about Britishness (mainly Englishness in my list)
Some examples, which I'll come back to if I can later:
Kinks: - Sunny Afternoon - Waterloo Sunset - Village Green Preservation Society
Jam - Strange Town - That's Entertainment
Got all of them, but no Pulp so that's a good suggestion thanks, will remedy that.
Also to add I have things like Stones, Bowie, the real icons, but I'm sure I've missed some obvious bands or tracks along the way.

I just logged on to say Bowie and the Stones.
Sigh.
Depends a bit on where you go I suppose, as in if you cross over to Scotland you may want to theme it a bit with some Proclaimers and some of that painful wailing stuff.
In fact you could work regional variations in as you go along wherever really. Local connections and all that.
That would mean no Darkness naturally as no one wants to see Lowestoft.
Cliff Richard with and without Shadows Beatles, together and their solo / post Beatles stuff Rolling Stones
Ah but you already know / have these...
How about some Chas and Dave chirpy Cockney sing along stuff Hammond Organ greatest hitsto George Formby
Or maybe tailor the playlist to the tour? Wurzels, XTC Etc for West Country
Pagan Altar for trips to Stone Henge
Chas and Dave might be a good one ta, tend to play London Calling as we come back at the mo', might try some Chas n Dave to follow it.
The themed stuff is a whole new basket of fun lol. I've got Rick Wakeman eyed up for Tintagel, have been using the Bridgerton soundtrack for the last bit into Bath. Might be a new thread at some point.
Oh in case anybody is worried, I do of course have some Ed

Got some of them, but the others are useful thanks, appreciate it. The Greensleeve Henry thing is a myth though, although I'm pretty sure with how gullible most Yanks are I could just run with it anyway.

Be hard to ignore them completely given their success and union flag outfits.
Take That.
Gotta remember your punters aren't necessarily going to share your tastes!
I spent a very long time this afternoon deciding what was the least bad Spice Girls song, this is balanced out by the fact I found Edward Ebeneezer on Spotify and it's included

And you went for...?
Again, you might want to consider your guests want those they know and can [ouch] even sing a long to.

Just looked and went for 2 in the end, Spice Up Your Life and Who Do You Think You Are. I'm sure that says something about me.
Not got The Cure from your list above and it's a good shout so appreciate that.

Have you got some Oasis in there? Probably Live Forever or Don't Look Back in Anger?

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here?
Madness - We Are London
The Smiths - Panic
Got Oasis, probably found it harder to iclude The Smiths than the Spice Girls, I expect that says even more about me.

Some good ones there thank you, though Turning Japanese was The Vapours unless I'm mistaken.
Have got some Beautiful South and clearly EEJB once I realised it was on Spotify. I will talk about it when I have yanks on board too, see if I can rustle up a few more halfway interested fans across the pond. I do tell them it's compulsory to have an English soccer club that is there's regardless of how little they know otherwise they are falling behind the rest of the world.
