Thought I'd ask this question as there has been a lot of discussion on the ethics of it all, but wondered how strongly people really feel when it comes down to it.
I'll probably still watch a fair bit as I do love World Cups, though I will also be hoping that the whole thing is an utter disaster as a sports-washing exercise.
I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun.
I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

..."something" is going to happen.
A major incident of some sort.
I'm not sure what specifically, but there's just a thought nagging away at me that something is just around the corner.

Cannot recall any incidences of streaking at sports events recently. I wonder what type of headgear the Qatari police have to cover up the unbroadcastable nether regions ?
There have been so many tournaments where I have announced that I'm not bothered 'cos England aren't it and then end up watching nearly every game. I will look to see what I could be watching on other channels and knowing the TV choice that is on offer I predict I will watch the footie.
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Agree.
FWIW I voted not happy but will watch it all anyway.
Would entering the sweepstake make me a hypocrite?
TDS's FF is easier to boycott what with no prize on offer, but the Sweepstake has a £25 Amazon voucher at stake. There should at least be some biscuits for the FF prize winner.
But then I generally try to boycott Amazon too although admittedly will use them if they have something I need that I cannot find elsewhere. Thankfully that's quite rare.
These things have become more complicated than they're supposed to be.

No one has to justify themselves. People can be critical of it and still watch without being a hypocrite IMO.
It's a massive event. Decent people are going to wish it was somewhere else but it isn't. In a ideal world everyone would boycott it but people love football and love big tournaments. To be honest, football is my main passion in life and one of the few things which bring me some joy so sorry to anyone offended (not aimed at you) but I will be watching.

What about the voucher?
I know that for a number of people tournaments like this bring much needed 'something' into their lives. I was going to say 'joy' but watching your national side get a hiding is anything but joyful.
I have been up front about being both uncomfortable with the location but acknowledging my own urge to follow England, like yourself.
At least people are talking about it huh? The organisers will be more than aware that the world is watching, judging.
Someone does need to speak to TDS about the biscuits. 1st prize could be 2 packets of chocolate hobnobs with maybe 2nd place getting one pack. 3rd would be a packet of plain.

Eh?
Are you seriously trying to conflate the actions of a load of beered/coked up England fans with the actions of the Qatari state?
No I am not…..that was your thought not mine.
I think anyone would disagree with certain things in Qatar but having the worlds gaze on them could help change certain things.
If it wasn’t for Covid and Wembley being only 75% full with the thousands that stormed the turnstiles there would have been inevitable deaths….so a different point but it annoys me it’s been forgotten and we’re up for Euro 28.
Not that I believe those that say they won’t watch but what if like me you have young kids that love football and all the superstars…..will you not let them watch either and how will you explain it to them?

What kind of weird comment is that?
There's a number of people who feel strongly about the whole thing and if they say they won't support then who the feck are you to doubt someone's word?
You obviously feel you need to justify yourself to the point you're happy to misrepresent other people.
I don't doubt for a moment there's plenty out there who say they will boycott and keep their word. Why would I?

I think those results would be slightly different if the vote wasn’t secret.
Only very slightly imho. Many people have clearly been upfront about their intentions on this & the other poll thread - the opposite of virtue signalling.
I'll be watching England & Wales games only, plus maybe the opener & final. But sometimes you get swept up in things, and lord knows we need some distracting time out from grim, grey, rainy Blighty in November, with its toxic tories con-trolling us, the cost of existing crisis, Brexit chaos and unheated homes (for those of us lucky enough to have homes at all).
As an aside, looks like ITFCson may have got confused with his double/triple negatives, as I often do, and accidentally left out a "don't" in his final para.
The hypocrisy surrounding this World Cup is breathtaking. I don’t recall any country refusing to enter - nor do I recall any pious, virtue-signalling polls prior to the previous World Cup in a country that invaded its neighbour four years previously. I wonder what the Guardian-reading Qataris think of a country that ignores the people of Northern Ireland, wants to send refugees to Rwanda - and questions value of the European Court of Human Rights.

What about the option of hate it in the middle of a domestic season and prefer to watch Ipswich. Really couldn't care less about it.
Why are people suddenly being upset now? Qatar won the bid 10 years ago. Why didn't we have the outcry then?
Not sure that people are suddenly upset now. There was a tonne of outrage when it was awarded to them, loads of ongoing discussion since, its just getting more amplified now because it is actually happening next week.

Not sure about that dubbers. One look at the media/social media outcry of the European Super League showed that enough pushback will cause changes of minds from the powers that be. At the time the biggest outrage was more due to the fact that England hadn't been given the World Cup and that we all knew how many backhanders had been chucked at FIFA by Russia and Qatar.
There's a really good book called The Ugly Game: The Qatari Plot to Buy the World Cup which was released in 2015. 5 years after the bids were announced, this was still the biggest issue people had (unless someone can link me to other articles around that time re. the human rights issues etc.)
I do think Bloots is right. I've had a nagging feeling something is going to go horribly wrong over the next month or so. And if it does it'll be covered up badly which will attract even more controversey.
Oh, and I don't like it, but I'll probably watch the sh1t out of it like the massive hypocrite that I am....
