Mrs ullaa has discovered lead in the house and is now crapping herself over possible damage to little ullaa. I have no idea how seriously to take it.
Specifically, the person who owned the place before us had stuck lead fake 80s affect ye olde worlde lines to 3 internal doors - that criss-cross affect you might have seen. We took these off, but the door just tested 'positive'. Have I hurt the family by not replacing the doors completely?

I don't believe that there should be much of an issue there - it would be highly unlikely that any of you will have ingested the lead, or had significant contact with it.

I don't believe that there should be much of an issue there - it would be highly unlikely that any of you will have ingested the lead, or had significant contact with it.

I too, cannot imagine any problem. Lots of nice old houses have got leaded windows, and the lead will presumably have an oxide coating it anyway.
Don't take my word for it, but I think a lot of the time scare stories are created to drum up work for manipulative, greedy tradesmen. |  |

When you say tested positive what do you mean?
According to the following from the WHO, people can become exposed to lead through occupational and environmental sources. This mainly results from:
(a) inhalation of lead particles generated by burning materials containing lead, for example during smelting, recycling, stripping leaded paint and using leaded aviation fuel; and
(b) ingestion of lead-contaminated dust, water (from leaded pipes) and food (from lead-glazed or lead-soldered containers).

I can say that animals live fine alongside lead painted walls and doors unless they start licking them (calves mostly - sometimes horses and donkeys that "crib bite"). Then they can show signs of lead poisoning - blindness and brain disorders.
I'm sure the risk to your family is minimal unless little ullaa is licking the doors! I'd seriously doubt you have hurt your family but I'd replace the doors soonest just to be certain and put everyone's mind at rest - especially yours. |  | | |

I live in asbestos house, the interior timber was covered in lead paint and the ceiling space was full of lead dust. Got the lead dust vacuumed out and spent the best part of two years scraping the peeling lead paint off wearing a respirator and full body PPE. Had to take all the furniture out of the room, seal it to make it airtight, then sugar soap everything when i'd finished. Then i repainted the timber. It was a massive ballache but Mrs Bondi is now less worried that the kids will end up with learning difficulties. If i were you, i'd get rid of the doors. Happy wife... | |
