We're not ugly enough? 19:57 - Feb 4 with 1838 viewsRyorry

Playing stylish, passing, Championship style football ain't necessarily what you need to get out of L1?

Is this a deeper than KM thing? Ie recruiting policy behind the scenes by Gamechanger & MA?

I can’t remember the last time I saw us so ugly. Maybe never have. We leave a foot in all the time. Maybe there’s room for more though!

Have we brought players in to address games like this?

I don't think so and whilst I think if we went up, we'd probably be better at dealing with the Championship, that's no good if we can't get there.

Wednesday and Plymouth are both bigger and more physical than us and clearly more adept at dealing with these kind of opposition

Saturday is huge now, we have to be winning that one

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

I didn't just mean in tackling, I meant in playing a more direct style.

Ah, right sorry. So a bit more ‘Stoke’. Yes, we don’t do that. What we’re doing seems to work well up to a point. It’s just finishing off the opportunities. I don’t know whether that comes down to individual quality or our organisation. Probably the former given how many relatively easy chances we miss and wrong decisions we make around the box.

L1 decision making. Burns squares that ball and we score.

Somebody on the BBC Suffolk phone in following the game made a very good point. It does feel at times like some of the players go missing in some of these lesser fixtures.
The more accustomed Championship players perhaps don’t have the same motivation against the likes of Accrington, Cheltenham and Cambridge. Perhaps this reflected by some of the results against these sides.
My thoughts are we will see solid and strong performances from the likes of Evans, Morsy and Burns against Wednesday next week.

In terms of attacking our opponents, I couldn't find a clip of Steve Kabba thundering right through us to score two at that awful night at Grimsby on 08/10/2002, but if you'd been unlucky enough to be there or seen the goals at the time, you'd know the kind of thing I mean!

Thinking also of how Cambridge defended by just filling their box with so many pairs of legs we couldn't get a shot through them.

Find it painful & feel a bit hypocritical saying it, as when we've been at our best, eg v. Morecombe 10 days ago, it's been an absolute pleasure to watch us play - but this being L1, other teams sometimes literally just don't wanna play ball, & I think we need to match them in style rather than use finesse to try & outplay them.

I don't by this argument at all. You can play any style of football in any of the leagues but regardless of how you play if you want success you need to defend well and also take your chances. In other words be clinical at both ends of the pitch.

Exactly. Though I don't think we change up enough when a team sits deep.... we always look to pull the ball back from the byline and pick a player out. Feel we need to get a higher percentage of balls just whipped across the box early.

Get some ugly goals.

"Get some ugly goals."

Well exactly, that's what I was saying! (or at least half of it).

No. We’re not taking our changes but that does not mean that we have to be more direct.

Not being cynical enough in front of goal foes not mean we have to hoof it etc.

Maybe "cynical" was a Freudian slip?! ;)

I don't mean we should go as far to the other extreme as "hoofing" it, just be more direct with fewer passes in the build up (which currently means we're trying to probe for the perfect opportunity but which gives their defences time to defend in numbers).

No, the style isn’t the problem - the failure to put the ball in the net is the problem.

And I'm saying the failure might be (at least in part) down to the style.

The plan is working perfectly.

The execution is sorely lacking.

We don't need a plan B.

We need to execute Plan A better.

I reckon we are plenty ugly, or at least some of the squad is.

Keogh looks like he is rough-sleeping

Fridge looks like his previous job was staring out to sea on Easter Island

And dear Chaplin looks like he has absconded from the Young Offenders Facility

Don't get me wrong, I love them all.

It is a bit easier to love them when they bring us 3 points tho'

You ALWAYS need a Plan B.
