I feel quite sorry for him. He's a very good player who would be a starter for most other teams in league 1 and maybe even lower championship.. He's looked good every time he's played and was outstanding against Burnley. We all loved him early on before Davis arrived.

Barring an injury to Davis it looks like he isn't getting a look in, even on the bench. Just seems such a waste.

I hope we don't see him move on. I maybe wrong but I think he could have quite a future somewhere if he doesn't get a chance with us.

At the start of the season much credit was given to our substitutions. Replacing Davis with Leigh after 60-70 minutes was very effective.

I think we've also missed TJJ from the bench.

He'd probably get on my bench over Edwards, as much of a shame as that is.

He's not getting in ahead of Davis...
Most games we are on the front foot, where Davis talents shine, going forwards. Plus Davis has become a vert important set piece taker...
He's a very solid back up, though. And games where we do a fare bit of defending, meaning Davis is overworked getting back and forwards. Then I can see him getting minutes later in the game...
Having said that, Davis could be due a breather soon. You'd think that would come in this run of games against lower ranked teams. But, again, these are games where you'd expect us to be on the front foot. So, Davis is probably the better option, imo.
With tougher games to come, I'm sure we'll see Leigh utilised, if fit..

I don’t think he’ll move on. McKenna has been clear about the need for cover in all positions and he offers that for the left hand side. Can’t see it being a focus area for recruitment, as you say he’s looked decent but it’s hard to make a case for him starting ahead of Davis who has by and large been one of the POTS.

KVY and Penney will be off. I imagine Keogh & Aluko will too as their contracts are up. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 1 of Harness or Edwards leave, as well as Harper and Pigott. El Miz will be an interesting one, we might get a few for him. Certainly opportunities to free up some wages to reinvest.

I think he is too good a player to hang around being a substitute.

I suspect at 28 Leigh would probably want to be playing next season — wouldn't be a surprise if we allowed him to join a good upper mid-table L1 club where he would be a regular pick, and signed a younger LB who could take over when Davis inevitably leaves for big ££ in the next 18 months or so.

Think Edwards will be off which is sad, but then if we manage to get where we want to go without having got the best from him I'll cope! Harness is probably our weakest first-team regular (Broadhead such an upgrade) and hard to see him getting games if in Champ but would still have his uses in L1.

It's tough for Leigh.
He gets in any team at LB that doesn't have Leif Davis in it!

Looking at our bench on Saturday, it's hard to see where he gets in as Donacien can play across the back 4.

Really liked the second wind Leigh gave us at the start of the season at the 60-70 minute mark.

He won’t be off.

This time last year he was playing for Fleetwood/Morecambe/Accrington. Can’t remember who it was out of those awful teams, as they all roll into one.

Now he’s part of our big project.

But yeah I definitely appreciate him!

Yeah, and two years before that, he was playing for Aberdeen. He only ended up at morecambe because he had injury woes. Might stay, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get bids for him in the summer.

Better defender than Davis but Davis has improved and is good at set pieces which i think just gives him the nod.

I assume he knew the deal when he signed for us, it was hardly a secret that we were signing him as a squad player with another left back to come.

Leigh turned 28 last September, this is his 9th season as a senior pro and most of his consistent game time has been with smaller League One sides (Bury, Morecambe). He'll have earned OK but certainly not "retire at 35" type money. This contract with us has probably set him up for a much more comfortable post-football career.

Every team needs good squad players. People who work hard, play well when called upon, can do a job in multiple positions and whose nose won't be out of joint if they aren't playing. Leigh's doing that for us and making a living at it. No one needs any pity here.

He's a good back up to Davis no doubt.
Leif is different gravy though.
Top player.

I think his engine, reliability, and ability to aid ball retention mean that he would be a solid emergency DM if we get over-stretched in that position when Morsy gets his inevitable suspension. I would rather have him in that position alongside Humphreys than Aluko, who has been used as the emergency CM at the end of games before this season.

If one of Humphreys or Luongo are injured at the same time as Morsy's suspension then this is a live question which will need an answer, and Leigh would be a safe bet, in my opinion. Possibly Harry Clarke as an alternative with Donacien to RB. If not them, then who?

Greg is great but I think the is larger difference between him and Davis than you are implying.

Davis was once again brilliant on Saturday. Really should have had another assist or two through others poor finishing and had a brilliant shot hit the post.

We are simpler a much better team when we get Davis on the ball high up the pitch.

Whilst I agree that Davis has been good - and we've looked good when he's got forward, its hard to say, based on playing evidence that there is a massive gap, purely because we've not seen Leigh play enough. He's only made 2 league starts, one of which was at Lincoln when the squad was much changed due to illness, and the other at Burton.

Obviously, McKenna sees them in training, so obviously believes that Davis offers more, but I think we'd all agree that Leigh has not let anyone down when he's been on the pitch, albeit that he's not a like for like replacement.
