Barnsley's 15 game form is quite remarkable too... 23:47 - Apr 22 with 2685 viewsN2_Blue

The only game statistically i could see being more difficult than this would be Plymouth (a)...and we know unfortunately that was 1 of our 4 defeats.

Take form of last 15 games - rather incredibly Barnsley have scored 1 more goal in that time than us, 38 compared to our 37 goals, and only secured 2 points less. So their form is almost as incredible as us and they have the home advantage in this fixture. They have won 9 in a row at home!

I'm still confident we can beat anyone, but this is about as difficult as fixture as we could have at this stage. Fingers crossed we can win and take the pressure off but i think a draw wouldn't be a bad result. It would mean if we beat Exeter at home, we'd only need to avoid defeat at Fleetwood...and that's assuming Sheff Weds win both their last 2 games.

A draw would be a good result. They'll be a bit wary of us as well. Can see it being a better of a game actually. Would be nice to say we've beaten a side in the top four this season. Feel like we owe them one given that disallowed goal.

yeah i agree, could be a very decent point, but i still think we can get all 3.

That Harness 'goal' still makes me very angry. One of the worst decisions of the season.

We need 5 points from 3 games, but if we lose to Barnsley we then need 6 points from 2 games!

indeed!
Which is why i wouldn't be at all disappointed by a point... but no reason why we can't win it

They’re on a great run. A draw might be respectable but it would give Weds a huge lift. Whereas we win and it will almost be party time and game over for the owls. 3 cup finals left but winning the first one and the other two will be a little less nervy

I think this is the hardest of all by a distance.13 wins in 14 at home for Barnsley now! Scoring over 2.5 goals per game and winning by two clear goals on average. Demolitions of Plymouth and Derby, big wins against Wednesday and Pompey all part of the run. They're also the most effective team in the league (points-wise) over the past 20, 25, 30 and 35 matches, which is quite incredible for a team sitting in 4th.

It's why the Posh result was so massive, rendering this one no longer critical to our season. I'd love us to show why many feel we're the best team in this league though and emerge with that final statement win, despite not needing to show we're better than Barnsley in order to get top 2. I would be on cloud nine.

I'd absolutely take a draw now. Going to be an incredibly tough game.

Statistical comparison with last season by BlueBoots 22 Apr 2023 19:20
Projected total based on current PPG / GPG...

43 matches: 97 Points, 96 Goals

...100 Points, 100 Goals countdown clock... currently on 91 Points, 90 Goals with 3 matches remaining, so need 3 wins and 10 goals.

Despite the Top 4 all winning today, find ourselves in an improved position with games now running out. Before today, promotion guaranteed by winning 2 of our remaining final games if Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley failed to win all their remaining games; now if we win 2 of our remaining games, Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley still can't catch us (can even afford a win and 2 draws due to our superior goal difference) Obviously if either team drops points, our task then becomes easier too.

Hopefully continue this incredible 3 month run (P16 W12 D4 L0) on Tuesday night!

Posted the 15 game form table on this thread yesterday...puts our run into perspective, but as you say Barnsley are right up there - same number of wins as us, but we've managed 2 draws to their 2 defeats during that time.

The fact they need to win to have any chance of the automatics should make for an open game, and hopefully a bit of space for our attacking players to exploit.

The problem we all have this season is that there's four teams in League One that must be playing to a top half of the Championship standard. The points totals are ridiculous. Wednesday could win their last two games, finish on 96 points and be in the play offs.
It would make things a lot more comfortable if we can get a win but logically a draw is a good result. That leaves us needing a win and a draw from the last two even if Wednesday win both theirs.

I’ve never seen such a confident fanbase as theirs.

Assume they haven’t had over a decade of Marcus Evans Ltd delivering crushing mediocrity and disappointment.

They've been making slightly hard work of it since they beat Wednesday last month, two defeats and a draw since then and the only comfortable wins they've achieved came against Forest Green and Morecambe. It won't be an easy game by any stretch, they are pretty clinical with the chances they create, but I make us favourites.

Favourites away from home? Blimey!

Free hit game IMO

Will be nice to watch and be able to accept any result (other than a battering) with a degree of pragmatism in the overall picture.

Would take a draw now, they’re going to cause us more problems than Peterborough did for sure.

Yes, favourites away from home. Our form is insane and on the road we've beaten Peterborough, Bolton, and Derby by a combined score of 7-0 during that run. Haven't looked at the odds but I suspect the bookies will have us as favourites.

The last 7 games they have lost 2 drawn 1 so we are in much better place and if we play well we should win, draw worse case.

Interestingly (or not!) that with that transfermarkt link, although you are limited to 5/10/15/20/season for the number of matches via the dropdown, you can edit the querystring parameter 'leztze' in the URL to any value you want to get results over, for example, 12 games. (The dropdown will show 5, but the table will use the value provided).

There's no value that I've been able to put in there which has included Norwich City in the data.

On reflection, probably not interesting.

Don't think micromanaging expectations and details will change much for the players, they'll be looking at how to secure top two whoever it is against.

If you look at the confidence from them and us fans yesterday it was palpable. I think we will beat them, as I think we win the rest of the games, but if we don't it'll not alter too much as we can win one of the last two and still be on track.

It's pretty telling that Vale is the only time we've gone behind for ages. Wednesday and Plymouth are both having to fight back regularly.

It won’t be easy but feel like if we play well we are currently a better side. 5/6 weeks ago when they beat those 2 I would’ve made them slight favourites.
