Desperate for ideas 10:19 - May 16 with 2076 views | giant_stow | Sorry for this self-obsessed post, but I'm meant to be taking my son plus 7 others to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 this Saturday, but have just seen that it has iffy scenes for a 10 year old crowd. (animal mutilation and peeling human faces ffs!). Anyone got a bright idea for something to do instead? I'm panicking here.

Thanks Factual, but I fear he may not go for that being a headstrong lad. It's the responsibility of having the others too thats particularly worrying. A truely hate birthday time - so stressful - I start to dread it a couple of months before.

Desperate for ideas on 10:34 - May 16 with 1975 views | clive_baker | Weather is meant to be nice isn't it? Could get some cones and mark out a football pitch up the park for a 4-a-side? Take some picnic bits for half time. Hackney half this weekend as well, there might be a decent vibe. Swimming? Don't envy you having to look after 8 10 year olds. Keroist.

Wouldn't recommend that, he'll be peeling his own face off.

Thanks Clive - hadn;t seen the forecast - footy is an option as they all love it, but it can get a bit competitive! I'm starting to think it's the only answer though. Maybe rather than a match, we could do penalties / crossbar challenge / me vs them! It was meant to be a limit of 5, but so and so had to have an invite and then the other so and so too.

Desperate for ideas on 10:46 - May 16 with 1931 views | StokieBlue | Puttshack in Bank is great for a kids party during the day, I think that would be about the same price as the cinema although it wouldn't take as long. It's all automatic so no cheating from the kids. The ball knows when it's hit and then counts the shots and you get points for taking different routes. You get one minute to finish the hole after you've first hit the ball. SB

Desperate for ideas on 10:46 - May 16 with 1935 views | SlippinJimmyJuan | I don't have children but have seen the film and after some thought, you have probably made the right decision. The film itself is good crazy fun with a positive message, but the face stuff (although over briefly) is pretty visceral. I imagine a weak stomach would probably churn at that. The animal mutilation stuff is not as bad as it sounds, the characters are quite sweet so thag probably softens it considerably and you don't see very much of the process at all. It would be one thing if it was just you and your boy going but it is hard to say with eight of them so probably right to err on the side of caution. Should be a straight 12 certificate. Have you considered the Mario movie? It's about the only kids film out at the moment and I actually thought it was decent, although it is fundamentally a long advert for the Nintendo Switch! The kids that have played those games will get more our of it, but it is inoffensive and entertaining enough even without that familiarity.

Really appreciate the review of both films. So the face thing is worse than the animal stuff - interesting. I hadn't really thought of the Mario Bros film, but sounds a lot safer, so will look into it. Genuinely appreciate the help people.

I've done the the tour myself and it's not a room - more of a cabinet in a corridor. Go on, make hey...!

It's fairly bad. Whilst the animal bits aren't graphic as they don't really show anything, they could be quite upsetting which is on purpose as they are doing fairly horrible experiments on young animals. I personally found it upsetting at least, so from a film perspective it hits hard. The face reveal is fairly graphic, but I have no idea where people draw the line. Show them that, let them know what the footy good times feel like when you support a proper club.

Desperate for ideas on 21:36 - May 16 with 1353 views | HARRY10 | A few years back I was left to cover a penalty comp at the local 'fete' There was a 5-a side goal provided. What I did was to divide them into two teams, sorted by lining them up tallest to smallest, with every other one in one team etc A running total was kept of scoring and saving, over 4 separate rounds, with prizes to the winner of individual goals, saves, team winning etc. It is what you put into it. Presentation of prizes, official photographer (kid with phone etc), players were booked for ludicrous decisions, penalised by being the ball retriver 9you'll need more that one ball, and a whistle.... all off Ebay. Kids at that age love competition - go with a mindset of having fun, and it will be.
