Cricket Day 3 on 14:11 - Jul 21 with 2203 views | the_toff | Pointless letting Jimmy come in. I don't see any value in another few runs an over when we've got this lead and with the forecast looking so bad. Time is at a premium, lets get ball in hand and have 60 overs at them today.

Also running the risk of an injury to hand or arm. Daft!

Yeah, the last two have added 49 so far and the lead is 238. Probably not quite enough to avoid needing to bat again but should get most of the way there first.

Cricket Day 3 on 14:33 - Jul 21 with 2143 views | gainsboroughblue | Putting them out of the game here and looking to bat only the once. An hour burst before tea, 8 men round the bat. Just hope time and weather doesn't conspire. I'm actually peed off that were not looking to go 3 up to be honest. Edit. Actually 4 up! [Post edited 21 Jul 2023 14:35]

Exactly this, ideally we dont bat again. Also the added pressure of being 250 behind not 'just' 200 cant be ignored. Looking close now everyone in whites. JB smacking everything.

This is the thing, we score so quickly, you then have to delay declarations as players like Bairstow get close to a hundred in a matter of overs.

Totally agree, always thought we need 250.

The way I see it is with the weather forecast Australia don't have the time to win this game from here. So all we're doing now is increasing the chance of a draw.
Cricket Day 3 on 14:43 - Jul 21 with 2058 views | SaleAway | Everyone loves a last wicket partnership... pretty demoralising for the aussies, and its getting the crowd up. Hoping for a couple of quick wickets when we do eventually stop smashing them around.

This has to be utterly demoralising for Aus. Being taken to the cleaners. I'll be amazed of they aren't at least 4 down by the close. We can basically set what field we choose with what time is left. Massive difference to what Aus are able to do.

“Another few runs...” 9th-wicket partnership at about 65, so far.

Not sure how far short of the rope that last four bounced, looked like it might just be enough for the 100 then. Excellent innings from England.

Very honourable discharge, silencing the critics (incl. myself) who wanted him dropped for this Test.

Cricket Day 3 on 15:23 - Jul 21 with 1913 views | Vegtablue | I very much like the bat once approach. Where I'm less convinced is in Australia being expansive enough for those extra runs to prove more valuable than the bowling overs, given what little cricket may be left in this match. Hopefully I'm putting far too much trust in British weather reports!

It puts us in control of the pace of the game. If we needed 100 runs on Sunday, they woul dbe bowling 7 overs an hour and waiting for the next rain break. Also socreboard pressure, fatigure after long chaotic fielding days etc is a significant thing.
