To undermine our children's futures in a futile attempt to garner a few votes for a dying political party is the action of an utterly contemptible sh!t.

Rishi Sunak will be seen by history as an irresponsible w**ker. on 21:08 - Jul 24 with 2706 views | Swansea_Blue | He’s mightily unimpressive. I didn’t have any expectations of him either way. He largely went under the radar as Chancellor because of all the drama around Johnson. Only his failed Eat Out to Help Out scheme really cut through publicly as a warning. He had to do furlough and did, so that was fine. He hung SMEs out to dry doing that though, so maybe that was another warning, but one that not many would know about. I didn’t know how much of what he did was steered by No. 10, so you think ok I’ll just reserve judgement and see what he’s like. That didn’t last long! Weak, cowardly, lacking in any vision or leadership qualities. He comes across as barely sentinent in interviews. Utterly unable to understand his brief and so sticks to a repetitive, meaningless script. Just pointless in every way.

No perhaps about it. This country voted for Brexit, voted for a party led by the liar Boris and locally, voted for utter pathetic idiots like Tom Hunt and 30p Lee. These politicians, encouraged by a hate-filled media, sink lower and lower taking the country with them. And the party that’s supposed to be opposition - well they just go from vanilla to beige, sipping pints with the Tory Lites not wanting to rock anything. At the moment it’s anything but the corrupt Tory and Labour can get away with this at the moment. But a party that lacks the will to bring in change will do f**k all positively for the masses. I know that Blair’s name is mud to many, but in the early days his administration brought in the minimum wage, brought in devolution and made the UK more positive in Europe. And I can’t see todays Labour Party doing anything as ‘radical’. Apologies for the rant but it’s quite depressing at the moment.

Another of his legacies as chancellor was costing tax payers billions of pounds through incompetence or just wanting to funnel public money to his mates in the banking sector. He was absolutely hopeless as a chancellor and just as bad as a PM: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/jun/10/rishi-sunak-wasted-11bn-by-payi

Ah, but you have to remember that ‘serious crime is not a priority’ under this government. That was what my chum was told when his team investigating one aspect of it was dismantled. He worked for NCA and took early retirement. Headcount cut = tory happiness. You are right about wasted money and this lot, but as the Treasury people told me ‘we can always print money’. So if Sunak’s mob lose a few pounds it’s not a problem then. Yes it is and staggering incompetence and criminality of this shower knows no depths. They are neither embarrassed by it or care. It’s fill your boots for the next 18 months and heap the blame on people who had nothing to do with the mess they created. There ought to be an independent public enquiry of what’s gone on, but there won’t be. Yes, Sunak is a little, stupid man. It’s like he doesn’t exist. [Post edited 25 Jul 2023 8:00]

Rishi Sunak will be seen by history as an irresponsible w**ker. on 08:11 - Jul 25 with 2261 views | DJR | The problem it seems to me, though, is that they set these lofty targets largely for PR/political purposes, but don't follow through and do the necessary planning or put in place the necessary infrastructure. The plan to ban the sale of petrol cars is a case in point, which is in serious jeopardy because we are not putting in place sufficient charging points, or, for example, considering how those without access to off-street parking will be catered for. When it comes to planning and infrastructure, I feel other countries are way ahead on issues like this. Certainly Norway is. In many ways, a pledge to do something by a date in the future is meaningless. Indeed, we even had Gove yesterday saying he still believed it was possible to build 300,000 houses annually by the middle of this decade, when clearly that it patently absurd given we haven't built anything near 300,000 houses since 1979, and are currently hovering just below 200,000. Perhaps if these scumbags were made aware that there will be retrospective retribution, and more importantly redistribution of the wealth they have stolen once their filthy tenure is over, they might row back on their kleptomania over those 18 months. The conventional and accepted channels of accountability, such as 'independent' public enquiries, are so devalued, toothless or downright corrupt and it's time we stood up for decency and fairness rather than just let ourselves be continuously shafted. The Empire is rotten and needs to be swept clean while we still have a functional democratic broom.

In addition to taking their ill gotten wealth off them I’d have them in court for crimes against the state. If there is no such law I’d bring one in and retrospectively apply it. I guess this cuts across Common Law but there is precedent. The Nuremberg Trials for one. There was no such thing as crimes against humanity before then. Charles 2nd had no problem going after the Regicides despite assurances to the contrary at the time of the Restoration. It can and should be done. They should be held to account.

It's because they see their job as winning elections and keeping the Tories, and by association their friends, in power. They don't have the slightest inkling that their job is to run the country and actually try to make things better for its citizens.

“When it comes to planning and infrastructure, I feel other countries are way ahead on issues like this. Certainly Norway is. “ Norway isn’t a good comparison because it’s effectively a petro-state. Whilst they do make a lot of effort with localised green policies, the fact that they are exporting a huge carbon footprint (4th biggest gas exporters in the world) is often overlooked. There’s always a tendency on here to point to Norway as a socialist mode and so I think there’s an element of bias. It comes at a cost - as we clamour to stop new licenses for UK North Sea oil, Norway are irresponsibly handing out Artic exploration licenses.

But surely the consumers of gas are as equally to blame as the producers, and we rely on Norway, as well as our own production, to meet our needs? Indeed, the UK has, like other countries, exported its carbon footprint to the far east when it comes to manufacturing, so I don't think any country is perfect. I can only go by what I read and saw when I visited Norway recently. They have made commitments similar to ours, but they are actually doing something about it on the ground. I'm not saying that, but unless we have a proper plan to replace gas central heating, it's very difficult to see us being weaned off gas any time soon, wherever it comes from. And interestingly, when it comes to heat pumps, Norway in 2020 had 604 heat pumps installed for every 1,000 households. In contrast, a graph showing heat pump sales per 1000 households in 2021, which has Norway at the top, has Britain way at the bottom, when it comes to European countries. Just wanted to highlight the leniency given by some to Norway because they like the political ideology. As for heat pumps that’s just one facet. Norway has a higher per head CO2 than the UK, and is fourth worst in the world when you include their oil and gas exports.

Heat pumps in the UK just aren't affordable. I've mentioned before, my boiler will need replacing very soon as it's 20 years old and I'd like to replace it with an air source heat pump, but even with the government grant it is about 3-4 times the cost of a new gas boiler. That's just not affordable for me. And it seems that since the government introduced the grant in the form it's in, installation costs have jumped by about £5k.....

That's certainly true, but it makes a nonsense of the UK's commitments, if people can't afford to, or the infrastructure isn't there to, fulfil them. And as the Tories don't appear to have any plan when it comes to replacing gas boilers, I wonder if Labour does. I've certainly not heard anything. [Post edited 25 Jul 2023 14:55]
