williams interview 13:55 - Aug 24 with 3121 views | nodge_blue | Interesting that he was at the Sunderland game and the move has been in the pipeline for a while. Wonder what caused the delay - buy clause? A PL player that is young. He sounds almost like the ideal substitute for Davis if he was to be bought. But Im assuming that cant be the case as its Leigh on his way out of the club. Which does beg the question where he is going to play? Is there a concern over Clarke achilles? I wouldn't be surprised as they can be tricky injuries. But if Clarke is fit then it seems unfair on him to get dropped too. But this lad clearly has expectations about getting lots of games as he wouldn't be dropping out of the PL otherwise. Maybe there will be a rotation of all three in games?

williams interview on 13:59 - Aug 24 with 3002 views | ChampionsofInnsbruck | Someone is going to have to replace Donacien in the starting 11, he's had a mare so far in two games (Sunderland and QPR) and if Clarke is not fit, why not Williams? We can't ride our luck every game with those sorts of mistakes, almost giving pens away, so to me this seems logical, as while he prefers to play on the left, he can play on the right also.
williams interview on 13:59 - Aug 24 with 3008 views | Asa | I guess you have to ask yourself if you can see Harry Clarke ever being good enough to play 50 Premier League games, let alone by the age of 22, half for a team that came 3rd in the Premier League, see him playing in the Europa League or see him keeping England's Luke Shaw out of the side. Williams is clearly a class above. He's being touted as cover for Davis but I wouldn't be at all surprised if we were now in a position where Davis and Williams end up at full back and Clarke is essentially the backup, given Clarke can play on the left. Let them battle it out. It's what every top club has. If Williams can't get in the side it's because Davis and Clarke are playing better. Great. As much as I love Leif, if Williams takes his spot it's because he is even better or Leif has dropped off in performance. It allows three very good players to fight for two spots, rotation where needed and we have two players on both side that can play McKenna's preferred way without having to make do with Donacien or Ball filling in and doing a different job. McKenna expects a lot from his backs in terms of energy and being able to provide attacking impetus. Having 3 full backs (two of which have played on both sides) that can all do what he wants is excellent news. Allows for rotation and being able to keep them fresh. Not sure Clarke is fully functional with his injury yet either.

Williams hasn’t played 50 games for a team who finished third! 26 of his PL appearances were for naaaarwich.

And Oxford had to wait on us. It goes to show that not all windows are the same, especially when you are trying to get players out of PL clubs and you have no real clout to do so.

If that was the case he wouldn't be playing as he would be running the risk of rupturing it. Ive done that myself and trust me you wouldn't want to as a pro. Really horrible thing to then ever get back to 100% right. But it may well be in a state that it's not recovering right. He looked ok at the end of the QPR game. Didn't seem to be wanting to get off and ice it or anything. Just walking around normally which must be good.

williams interview on 14:44 - Aug 24 with 2437 views | RadioOrwell | If he is as good as we hope he is, I suspect he could do a left midfield - wing back job. And is he not two footed ? I'm no footballer but even I have two feet.

I took from the interview that he's as much Clarke cover as he is Davis (n/t) on 15:35 - Aug 24 with 2183 views | unstableblue

How I see it Williams and Davis full backs JD won't leave one his injured and 2 a reasonable squad player who creates no problems. Also if Clarke can play centre back would it free up money for other positions. ? .
williams interview on 16:39 - Aug 24 with 2001 views | PioneerBlue | This is all about having quality and depth across several positions. GL was a sound back up for LD. Now we have someone capable of starting in LB RB or presumably RWB or whatever we wish to call the quite unique Burns role. You now have rotation and shared minutes for the RB LB roles where the backup at anyone time is a genuine starter whether that Leif or Clarke taking a rest. It is likely to be the beginning of a phase out for Donacien albeit that could be over a period of time.

I like Donacien. Great attitude, heart and clearly liked. He’s a big bloke, a good defender who can play in a number of positions at the back, so a useful squad member for us. The problem is he offers nothing going forward. Its just not his thing so yes, I do think he will move on maybe this time next year or sooner.
williams interview on 16:57 - Aug 24 with 1919 views | Hciwspi | Can’t Clarke play at centre back? If so there’s an option. Looks like we’re going for a very versatile back 4/5 so things can be switched around easily during a match.

I recall early last season, Janoi and Burns having a great overlapping relationship with Janoi getting to the end line regularly. Of course the Championship is a step up but not sure he cannot offer anything going forward.

5th for assists last season and his assist per 90 rate was double Clarkes. I still think Clarke does more for the team going forward but the idea he offers nothing is over the top.
