When do we hear the dreaded words... 08:21 - Sep 1 with 3664 viewsvilanovablue

... TWTD understands we're in for a quiet transfer deadline day? šŸ˜‰

If we do , we do and there's not a lot we can do about it (although I still think we'll see 3 out and 2 in today)

Anyway could be worse - could support Sheff Weds who are gonna be torn a new one tomorrow .Locals up here are not looking forward to it

There's always someone worse off than yourself

Going to be interesting as any signings today will be somewhat out of the blue. Scarlett was the only player we've been fairly heavily linked with, nobody else springs to mind.

If that is the case, won't be particularly unhappy.

I think we have a squad capable of giving it a decent go in the first half of the Championship season. We haven't lost any of our key players and have effectively turned a couple of our important temporary signings permanent, plus getting in some Prem youngsters on loan.

Sure, there are still identifiable gaps, altho even there we have young players who could potentially step up (Baggott, in particular). We can't expect to have a "second string" of identical quality to the first. No squad at this level operates like that in the real world.

Maybe not challenging for the top two at Christmas, but certainly in a decent position to respectably retain our status and perhaps have a good push in the second half.

Cathcart with Baggott out on loan would be my guess

I'm thinking the same but my head is telling me we only want to layers who want to be here and if Cathcart does , why haven't we got him before now ? Is it because we had our eye on someone else maybe ? Who knows !!

I'm thinking Edwards out for a Right Sided player to push Burns along and Baggott out on loan with someone coming in out of the blue...and not a loan unless he's a tried and tested LCB with a pedigree carrying a fee

Phil suggested we've gone cold on Cathcart. I wouldn't rule out us going back in for him if we got a good loan offer for Baggot.

Can’t see Baggott going anywhere, not now we have Burgess getting international call ups (see Joes post)

If there are no more signings then this has been a disappointing window. We have enough about us to not be in trouble but imo the only player we've brought in to strengthen the first 11 is Hirst. He was absolutely crucial imo and it's great we've got him in but objectively speaking he's never done it at this level before. With that being the case, an experienced striker from this level would have been good as a back up. Every other signing so far has potentially improved the squad. Very few have a decent amount of experience at this level. This is not a doom and gloom post. Happy to go ahead with what we have and we'll be fine but 2 key additions could make a big difference to what we achieve this season and it's really crucial we try an keep the momentum and positivity from last season for as long as possible.

You don't think Taylor or Williams strengthens the XI at all? As with Scarlett we don't quite know how different players will perform. People were saying this level is too much for Donacien, Burns, Ladapo, Harness etc which might be right for some of them, but we've got a long way to go.

Likewise, we don't really rely on individuals or the first XI it's very much teamwork and starters and finishers.

I think it'll only be judged good or bad with hindsight because if these players KMcK has chased for so long are duds it will look like a waste. But if say Baggott or Humphreys fly out of nowhere we can say they're in the building all along and he knew what he's doing.

We’ve signed cover for central midfield in the form of an exciting box to box young player. We’ve signed two very highly rated prem attacking forwards, plus a proven prem level versatile defender, these three on loan as we can’t afford this kind of quality currently re ffp. We’ve signed two of the reasons we broke records after January on perms.

Not sure what on earth some fans are expecting.

Don't disagree it would be nice to get another one or two in, but for me the key thing has been not breaking up the promotion team.

Maybe Sone Aluko or Freddie Ladapo. Not sure Conor Chaplin would happily sit on the bench.

Some posters seem to forget we already have a fair bit of Championship experience in the squad and seem to ignore the fact it is Championship quality too.

McCarthy made some gem signings but as if we could ever forget, he also replaced Murphy with Best and Pitman. Mitigating circumstances and I’m not slagging off MM but let’s be honest, we haven’t had a manager who consistently built a winning team over more than a season for almost 20 years. So yeh, fans are negative and expecting disappointment still, maybe. For me, McKenna is the real deal and has already earned my full trust. Leave him to it and analyse the games rather than his transfer dealings.

Pitman was a decent player - but his game didn't suit our style at the time.

If Phil thought that already I think he may have added a sentence to the end of the Dane Scarlett signing.

Im sure we will be trying to pull one of the irons from the fire today but it may be we still cant do it.
