Man, they really put a lot of stock into the prospect of Mark Ashton getting one up on them

'Position is not secure'

Pearson is second-longest serving manager in the Championship, having initially taken over the club on a short-term deal in February 2021.

He signed a three-year contract until 2024 when he was appointed on a permanent basis in April 2021 and the club are currently eighth in the table with 18 points, having won five of their 12 games this season.

However, after the win over the Sky Blues, Pearson said he "might be fighting" for his job with his contract due to expire at the end of this campaign.

"My position has not been secure, which irritates me," Pearson continued.

"All I will say is, why don't you ask someone above me for once, see if you can find somebody who's going to say something. The last two weeks have been very irritating for me, I'm not exactly in the best situation but I'm fine.

"I'm fine and I'll get better and I'll honour my contract so we'll see how it goes."

Bristol City were unavailable for comment when contacted by the BBC.

Sounds like someone's given him the football manager talk.

Bet he doesn't win the league and still end up sacked tho.

They're 8th in the Championship after 12 games. They have finished higher than 8th in the Championship once in the last 43 years. What are they on about?

He has done a more than ok job. He sounds like a beaten man. As long as we get a result, couldn't care less what BC do about him.

It's a bit odd. Pretend the fortunes were reversed. I wouldn't be saying the manager has one game to save their job if it was against a team in 2nd, 10 points ahead of us, with a game in hand.

Talk about knee jerk reactions

No offence to Bristol fans but they seem to have ideas above their station, there's no harm in some ambition and yes, the city should sustain Premier League football once in a while

My understanding is people have the wrong end of the stick here. Bristol City fans are desperate to keep Pearson and it's Lansdown who allegedly wants to replace him.

That's incredible in itself, he's quite wealthy isn't he but seemingly has never got it right as an owner

They have thrown quite a lot of money at not going up in the last from memory?

Yeah he's spent loads. I know his son's a director and perhaps the desire to change isn't coming from Steve himself, but far from my area of expertise tbf and I don't think even Bristol's finest are on the pulse here. Lots of speculation heightened by Pearson's interview and reported contract issues with zero commentary at board level.

Yes, exactly that. Nige has done a very good job, wants to continue his time with us…but the owner doesn’t like him, because the owners son came out with some bad comments that Nige should be doing better…and Nige reacted. It feels like a relationship between owner and manager that might not be resolvable…hence Nige’s comments about insecurity.

Vast majority of fans are totally behind Nige.

Goodness me, your owners are not turning into a sort of Marcus Evans of sorts? Maybe Ashton wasn't such a big bad wolf after all - it makes you wonder

A bad “collective” - Steve Lansdown (owner), Jon Lansdown (chairman), Mark Ashton (CEO), Lee Johnson (Head Coach). They all got carried away, spending loads, no control, no plan.

I sensed from the interviews with the Arizona Pension guy (Mark Steer????) that he stands no messing…and it seems a really good fit, and good control exists through all the football functions.

McKenna appears to be outstanding. Fair play.

I’m sure I read that on a monthly basis they all meet and every penny is to be accounted for.
So there isn’t just the one person that can spend as they wish

As a former, well respected poster on here used to say "owners relegate clubs". Not saying you are going to get relegated this season but ultimately the culture and everything else is driven from the top. We saw that with Marcus Evans who many people tolerated here because he wasn't your stand out, stereotypical bad owner (putting us in financial jeopardy, not paying the wages etc). He still slowly but surely killed the club though.

Saying all of the above, it is all ultimately about on pitch results and they hide a lot of failings. Without trying to use hyperbole, we have hit the jackpot with McKenna, who is destined for the very, very top with or (most likely) without us. If Ashton had pulled an appointment like that out of the bag when you were spending a bit, I suspect you'd have made the Premier League.

Marcus Evans wasn't a bad owner in that way. Just in over his head.

That’s why it is so dangerous when shareholders own 50% or more. Clubs should be about the fans, one narcissistic owner can so easily destroy a club.

I want to agree with you, but he distanced himself for so long that he never caught wind of what nearly everyone was saying - get a footy minded CEO involved. Also, Marcus' green shoots nonsense was the moment he thought he could get away with insulting the intelligence of the fan base. You know, relying on the U23 team to do the job of the senior team despite years of underfunding the basic infrastructure of the club (The only thing Lambert did right here was call him out on that)

In some ways, I think Evans' ignorance to the task he took on is actually worse than chairmen who are a cult of personality.

Unless you were his boss and seemingly desperate to get rid of him.

If you were to pick a ‘must win or get sacked’ game, it would be us at home.

Win-win for the owners.
