Al-Hamadi to Oxford 12:14 - Jun 19 with 4937 viewsportmanking

Indonesian site (Oxford part-owned by an Indonesian) saying Al-Hamadi going there on a season-long loan as McKenna can't fit him in his PL squad.

Des Buckingham would be a good coach for him to work under and a full season in the Championship might be better for his development than a bit part role (albeit with plenty of time at Playford Road) with us.

Do you have a link?
Wouldn’t surprise anyone to see him out on loan tbf. I’m sure we will go with 3 strikers next year so possibly two in-coming if Ali is allowed out.

Wouldn't be a surprise given (a) his age, (b) his lack of experience in the top few divisions, (c) the fact that we're bidding tens of millions for full internationals, and (d) we have a habit of sending decent players to Oxford when we regrettably can't make room for them.

Many of us had earmarked him as a likely season long loanee. I'd love to see him bang in 20+ for Oxford next season. I shall convince myself that they wear gold, not yellow...

I really want him to stay and have a chance here and there off the bench, a genuine raw talent who could be a bit of a wildcard towards the end of games.

I like him, but if we're signing better than him, I don't see the point in him stagnating? Bang 15+ goals in for Oxford and he can stake a claim next season.

Agree

. Wouldn’t expect such a loan to be made at this stage of the transfer window. He wouldn’t be surplus until we can name a full squad.

It would be a shame if he went out on load. He would learn a lot but being around McKenna, and making an impact from the bench could be more beneficial than playing at L1 standard

Makes a lot of sense. Full season as the main man in the championship would do him the world of good. They should take Humph too.

Precisely. World of difference between leading the line for AFC Wimbledon and a Prem squad player. He was signed as a project/work-in-progress. A season loan as a leading Champ front man is the next logical move for his development IMO. It would also show other hot prospects in the EFL that we're serious about nurturing talent the right way.

I can’t help but think that if we have Horst and this Greek fella that Ali would be a great wild card option for us off the bench.

Unless we're looking at bringing another 9 or player who can play the 9 role in. If that's the plan then getting Ali a good loan sorted early so he can do full preseason with his loan club would make a lot of sense.

Problem is you will need 3 seniors - because if Hirst or Ioannidis/AN Other get injured then you can't rely on Ali to play 30 mins week in week out at that level yet

He looked impressive. Would be surprised if he wasn't going to a more established Championship side.

It's a tricky one, similar bracket to Humphreys last season (and this) where we'll have to weigh up if he's better off staying put, training with the squad in a premier league environment, playing in the cups and perhaps a few minutes here and there of league football, or getting a full season under his belt at Championship level. I suspect the latter might be the answer.

If he bangs some goals for them we'll have plenty of options with him, depending on where we're at next summer.

I think his lack of exposure even to Championship football means a full season playing there HAS to be good for his footballing education, surely? He's only 22, remember. He's certainly one to nurture rather than let rot in the U23s.

Get him out on loan and playing games. Whether it's to Oxford or another Championship side down in the bottom 8, a Championship loan move would be excellent for his development and he would learn a lot more playing against higher level defenders on a weekly basis.

Young players need to play games, not just train and play fewer minutes.

On the topic of Humphreys, I hope he gets a good loan move this summer.

I can understand the path that has been taken with him and the decision to keep him around the squad until now, but he's going to be 21 this year and could do with stringing some games together somewhere.

If you compare him to Adam Wharton, they're similar ages (Humphreys is older) but one has kicked on massively, whilst the other is still yet to get going. If you're good enough, you'll play and if you're as good as Wharton, you won't look out of place either.

I've always been a big advocate of players playing senior games. Proper matches with 3 points at stake in front of paying fans, you can't replicate that and while u23 football is a good development arena its a million miles off senior football. The difference with us now though, and contrary to all of that, is I have such a high level of confidence in our management and coaching team now that there's a serious amount of benefit and value to be had from the Monday - Friday environment at Ipswich in terms of his development so its not quite as clear cut to me.

Players like Ali and Humphreys just wouldn't play U21 games, it's seen as a big step below even first team training
