Seemed strange that a Labour donor was rewarded with such a Tory “safe” seat. As it turned out it was just as well he wasn’t rewarded with a more likely constituency to win.

With these suspended candidates (from all parties) their name will still appear on the ballot paper, what happens if they win?
I'm assuming betting on this is against the law, so if they did win is it void and another by-election will happen in a few months?
In this instance I would imagine it is highly unlikely he would win but you ask a very pertinent question. The article states he is no longer a candidate. However, any postal votes already cast will not be able to be recast.

As per the Rochdale example earlier this year, far too late to change the candidates. Not that it will happen but if he won he wouldn’t have the Labour whip.

I did a search earlier but couldn't find a definitive answer. It seems they would be an independent if they won and your party have suspended you (as we vote for the individual not party in this Country) but that info didn't include anything about where they break a law related to a GE/voting

He'd be an independent.
What's wrong with these numpties?
It's a disgrace. Back in the day any decent self respecting politician wouldn't engage in this sort of downmarket sleaze.
It would be hookers and cocaine or knocking one out with a belt around the neck and an orange in the mouth. We really do have rubbish politicians these days.

The article states "nor a candidate". That's the bit that is confusing. Does the author mean he is not allowed to win or that he is simply no longer a Labour candidate and it has just been poorly worded.
The bit about postal votes is more about the fact that they are already cast and cannot be changed in light of this information (assuming that constituency has already sent them out).

Is this related to having the whip removed 🤔

They are all at it!!
I would say they are all as corrupt as each other but we know there is a sliding scale when it comes to corruptness.
Stupid in this case rather than corrupt. He didn't use insider knowledge as the tories clearly have, and his ability as an individual to affect the outcome is. I'd say, minimal.
He can't throw an election in the same way a sportsman can throw a match.
Pretty sure that given he remains on the ballot, if he wins the votes then he is the MP, no legal way out of that. Just not a Labour one, although I too suspect they will become more forgiving without an election to worry about.
