A positive is that she is just nuking her own chances of being Tory leader, because this just isn't a view the party would/could/should get behind.
She probably doesn't even believe half of it, like Liz Truss just spending too much time looking at the USA and thinking that the same battles are being fought here and getting giddy on seeing people come out to hear her speak and being paid a fortune for it. Not that that makes it ok, obvs.

It’s a view that they shouldn’t get behind, but they quite easily could and would get behind. Truss, who was elected parted leader with a huge majority from Tory party members lived a bit of this.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
Absolutely shocking, but whilst this may play well in the States, the right wing media here and amongst some on the right here, I think her stance on this issue does not have enough traction in this country to win back many moderate Tory voters, let alone her nomination by fellow Tory MPs.
All I would say to her is this.

Truss is the very epitome of a political turncoat. If she were to see a way back into British politics by being the champion of rejoining the EU then she’ll go for it. At least hate preacher Farage and JRM are consistent in their views. The most enjoyable part of the General Election was seeing Truss getting voted out - a complete arsehole of a person.
Anyone who sees the Rainbow flag and views it as some sort of indoctrination or something similar is also an arsehole.

Definitely.
I think it’s really telling that Farage was all set to head there then Donald got convicted so he pivoted his grift to Clacton.
She’s a vile individual. It’s been a breath of fresh air to hear Labour’s approach to governing even though they’re only a few days in. Acknowledging where there are problems, outlining their approach. A long way to go of course, but much better for the lack gaslighting and empty slogans. Braverman was a ghoul in a zombie government that campaigned lots but did little.

So according to you all Muslims are aresoles, interesting!
"Well the Progress flag says one, monstrous thing to me: that I was a member of a government that presided over the mutilation of children in our hospitals".
WTAF?
Just let that sink in for a minute.
Disgusting.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

In fairness, it is something fairly fundamental to many mainstream interpretations of Islam.
Same can be said of Christianity of course.
I see where you’re coming from but, and it’s a big but, he brought up Muslims when no one mentioned religion. It’s was an utterly pointless comment clouded by Islamophobia.
I’m not having a pop at you, but BlueBudgie reply was uncalled for.

At the risk of inflaming this thread, this Tory movement is existential to me and genuinely scares me. I don't think it will die out with the death of the most recent government, there was a trajectory politically and socially that was evidentially attacking trans people and those who didn't fit a certain worldview
I was not directly impacted by Section 28 but it affected my very childhood learning and understanding, and everything I grew up in was created by the people and government that designed it.
And this is why I'm genuinely scared by the movement of politics in general, particularly Braverman et al but also Starmer and his management way of considering transpeople's lives and very existence.
Edit: this is the first,I think, non football thread I've posted on but I'm genuinely very scared about the political direction, not slowed or halted by our new government.

I agree. He should have had an equal pop at christians. But that would create cognitive dissonance given the "values"issue...

Your reply was also personal and unnecessary and playing the man instead of the ball. Hence why I downvoted it and not the other criticisms of the post itself.

His comment was off-the-ball - I got up and promptly went straight through him on purpose.

You do know that not all Muslims are homophobic don’t you?
Think your Islamophobia has clouded your mind - that’s if you have one that is. Prick.
In recent months, some Muslim communities in Canada and the United States have protested against LGBTQ+ inclusion. Socially conservative Muslims have criticized what they see as growing LGBTQ+ “indoctrination” in schools and society more broadly.
In Michigan, a Muslim majority city council banned Pride flags from being flown on city property. In Ottawa, young children at an anti-LGBTQ+ protest stomped on Pride flags.
Similar protests also took place in Calgary and Edmonton, where one teacher was surreptitiously recorded lecturing Muslim students about skipping school as part of a national protest movement against Pride month activities. The National Council of Canadian Muslims cited the teacher’s comments as Islamophobic.

In recent times, christian organisations continue to want the right to deploy conversion therapy in the uk.

I agree fundamental Christians are as bad as fundamental Muslims that are homophobic and I should have stated both but I don't think it helps to call people aresoles because of their beliefs, they may not be homophobic but they disagree with having pride month and pride flags flown on government buildings which is that persons prerogative, but certainly doesn't make them an "areshole"

It’s hardly restricted to fundamentalists. The CoE bans same sex marriages in its churches. The may not be openly homophobic, but the main religion in England certainly isn’t prepared to treat all people as equals. That’s a bit arseholey. They’re slowly changing though - slowly being dragged into the 20th Century.
Iain Dale: “What a disgusting speech. And she seriously thinks she has a chance of leading the Conservative Party? Not while I have a breath left in my body. Moderate Conservatives need to stand up and be counted. This will not stand.”
Lord Houchen, the Tees Mayor: “The MPs and the members that I speak to are not interested in the divisive right wing politics of Suella Braverman.
The fact that she continues to entertain Reform, and even I think in an interview the other day, didn't rule out joining Reform, shows just how out of step she is.
She, before the leadership contest has even started, has shot herself in the foot.”

"And this is why I'm genuinely scared by the movement of politics in general ... but also Starmer and his management way of considering transpeople's lives and very existence."
i'm not clear what you're getting at here. what has starmer said that is negative in terms of transpeople's "lives and very existence"? i'm only aware of him re-iterating the proper equalities position that transpeople are entitled to the full protection of the law against discrimination, harassment and unfair treatment, but that there are also a small number of situations in which their biological sex is still relevant. as a lawyer starmer has, as far as i can see, only stated what equalities legislation and the gender recognition act actually says. how is that a challenge to the "very existence" of transpeople?
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
