Should’ve got better, need better, alas.

Delap>Nelson, hopefully Hirst will back after international break. AH has a great goals per minute ratio, miles better than Nelson's.

McKenna clearly agrees, it’s not a controversial statement.

Delap and Hirst were always going to be two of our strikers heading into the season proper. But not bringing in a third is poor. Would love to know why we were so fixated on Broja. It's not the first time and yet we don't seem to be learning from failing to land targets in previous windows.

An injury to Delap would be a disaster considering Al-Hamadi is still working his way back to full fitness after his injury and Hirst seems injury prone.

The good thing about us is that we have a lot of attacking options (even with few out and out strikers), and the past few seasons we have had goal scorers from all over the pitch rather than a striker bagging the marjority of the goals.

Hopefully this trend will continue and we will assess options in the winter transfer window.

All we can do now is get right behind the boys and hope and pray we dont get any/too many injuries to key players.

That's the ridiculous argument many of the downvoters fail to grasp.

McKenna and Ashton have spent all day trying desperately to get a striker in, so fairly obvious they also think we needed to upgrade. Ultimately it's something we failed to do.

Let's hope Delap don't get injured before Hirst is fit or will be like the uk in euro vision nil points very concerning should have gone elsewhere for a striker days ago got to get a foothold in the market abroad.

Exactly. It’s just basic logic.

I’m not sure Delap was really even bought to play up front, which is probably where the Nelson compromise came in late, yet now we are VERY reliant on him doing so.

I’m glad they haven’t gambled on Broja, but if that sort of money is available, there is A LOT of scope to upgrade that strike force from a part time striker and two £1m men.

Yeah we did.

So we just get on with it with the three strikers we have.

Ah I know

I love Delap. He’s got the attributes.

I love Hirst. But his fitness can’t be relied upon.

Al Hamadi runs around a lot, for a bit.

Not just down to the strikers.

Szmodics already on the scoresheet. Chaplin is capable of getting some. Burns when he's back. Jack Clarke is one to watch. We have potential scorers throughout the team.

We need to stay in the mix until January and like the last two seasons players realise we're not the dead loss they thought us in the summer.

How many times does it need to be said. Our number 9 is instrumental to HOW we play, not simply via scoring. They hold up the ball, they bring others into play. At the moment, Delap is the only person capable of doing that up top. Hirst is unproven in the Premier League, so we'll have to hope he can do the same once fit. Al-Hamidi is coming back from injury and disappeared against Wimbledon after the 5th minute. So if Delap goes down...

Maybe there was a slight misjudgement on the ability to get deals given the deals done throughout the rest of the window. But that feels a high risk trio to run with until Jan. As already said Hirst is injury prone and Al Hamadi is recovering from a major op and watching him Wednesday did not inspire confidence that he can reach the level required - a season in the championship would have been ideal. Clearly Szmodics could be an option but he doesn't have the same qualities as Delap or Hirst so it would be a tactical adjustment. There is no obvious U21 able to step up, Buabo seems to be injured again and is very raw.

From the outside it is hard to understand the focus on Broja.

He’ll be pissed off. The Broja thing has been a bit of a car crash.

He’s a sensible, rational guy, but boy, he’ll be gutted they couldn’t get something sorted. Seriously, this sort of thing is why Brighton would’ve tempted him, because we’ve just been gazumped by Fulham, eurgh.

Did they? Why wasn’t McKenna training the team or at least scribbling the team sheet together? They’ve got a game tomorrow. Dereliction of duty in my view. Ashton - were you with him or did you just nip out and buy his skinny latte and lunchtime cheese baguette because he was dialling up all these clubs?

I take it you will be tackling Ashton and McKenna for their appalling failure to do any decent business in this transfer window. We need to know why we only signed about a dozen players for a paltry £100m plus.
