What do we make of the Mike Amesbury Incident then?

No idea. Sounds like a bit of a Prescott incident with someone being a tvvat to him and getting back what they deserved, but hard to tell from that. Not that an MP should be hitting back of course.

Nope. Theres no context in that whatsoever. We've no idea what has been said, or what led up to the incident.

Anything could have happened here. If its an unprovoked assault, then its an unprovoked assault, but there's probably more to this I feel.

Footage before needs to be seen really, a la Manchester Airport

Again the Two-Tier crowd were waxing lyrical about the police in that one even before the context was given

Edit: I'll add a bit more context to the Two-Tier link

Those who are moaning about people being jailed for 'hurty words', were loving the law being tough at Manchester Airport

Less so when it came after them

This will be a case where the law goes after someone not on their side and they'll be quietly anonymous, I am sure

Clearly there's more to it. People don't usually lamp someone for no reason. Let's wait and see what led to this before we start casting aspersions.

I didn't accuse you of casting aspersions.

However, it's pretty clear you're judging this MP before knowing everything about the context.

The first video only showed what happened after the incident, although from the way is is moving and talking, it’s not unreasonable to conclude the MP is pissed. It was also reasonable for CB to say there was no context.

Later in the evening a video was released that showed the MP punching a man whose hands were by his side for several seconds before the MP punched him once the proceeded to punch him several more times whilst he was lying helpless in the ground. So I listed that to add some context.

What what we have seen, the MP was not under any threat as he has claimed. Keir Starmer, after viewing the footage, has suspended the MP from the Labour Party and removed the whip.

It seems fairly cut and dry, I imagine he won't be an MP for much longer.

I would have thought that as someone who was very vocally against controlled, consenting, rules based combat (boxing), you’d be very anti street violence - especially conducted by people in power.

It may well be the other person was being a n0b, but you can’t just lash out.

I can’t help but feel that if it was Jacob Rees Mogg knocking seven bell out of a constituent laying on the floor, Dolly would have appointed himself judge, jury and executioner.

verbal provocation can never justify a violent assault like that. continuing once the person is on the ground also takes it up a level of seriousness in the eyes of the courts.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

You're just repeating what we've all seen. You don't know what was said... or what happened before the man was standing there with his arms down. You can threaten someone with words.

Starmer has to suspend the MP pending an investigation - there would be uproar (including from you) if he didn't.

I repeat, people don't usually lamp someone for no reason.

Of course I'm anti-street violence. I'm not defending his actions I'm just saying we need to wait and see what led to this. I like to know all the information before making judgements.

It's interesting... but I was already thinking the same about you - that you're all over this because it's a Labour MP.

I waited for the full information before wading in on the Manchester Airport scuffle and I'd be the same if Rees Mogg, or anyone, did it.

Disagree. If someone, for example, threatened to harm a member of your family, I think you could fully expect a fist coming your way and have little complaint.

That is not true in UK law, you can use pre-emptive force to stop an attack, but you must have a good reason.

We don't know the context here, he had previously had a case of stalking against him which is probably not relevant here

For anyone who saw the Ben Stokes footage when he gets off, I suspect that would have shocked people

So let's not make pre-judgements, he'll be suspended from the Labour Party with the whip removed, pending further investigation. That still may not save him in fairness.
