I'm surprised that Clarkson has got the nerve to show up and be one of the lead speakers at the demo, given that it's millionaires like him who bought farms in order to exploit the IHT loophole that are mostly to blame for the Government's decision to change the regime.

Does seem a pretty stupid choice to have him as spokesman, guess it evens up the stupidity on both sides though. Can’t believe the levels of ignorance around from those not in the farming community, but you’d have expected a Labour cabinet to at least do some homework - and stick to their pre-election promises.

We had our argument about this a few days ago on similar thread, no point in both of us wasting our time having the same argument again.
I just wish city dwellers with no knowledge of the reality for farmers & the rural community would go educate themselves - better still, go and live on a small/medium family farm for a month - if you/they were to do that & genuinely didn't consequently change your/their minds, I'd donate £50 to a charity of your/their choice.

Yep, I was careful with my words because I don't want to get into another row or upset you, but for whatever reasons you've still failed to respond to the evidence and are just repeating what you feel.
Also, it's rather patronising to say city dwellers can't possibly understand (and we should go live on a farm for a month). I appreciate farming is a hard life and the profits aren't great for many. It's a vocation of love rather than a money making scheme (unless you're Clarkson). But we do have the ability to digest the facts. I listened to BBC Verify this morning on the radio, and I'm pretty confident the government are right on this (much closer to it than the farmer's union).

The only thing that upsets me is injustice, or people getting their facts wrong; or getting/presenting an incomplete/partial version of the facts.
DEFRA, one branch of govt., actually opposes the Cabinet on this. Their figures are entirely different, also a fact.
Which is why I suggested you go and talk with people actually experiencing the reality, rather than getting it second-hand from the media. [Post edited 19 Nov 2024 14:45]
