Works both ways though surely, i.e. whoever petitioned for a second Brexit referendum, cannot really call this ridiculous.

Turnout at GE was 28,924,725. That petition represents just under 3% so it is just like a poll of odd people.

They have the 100,000 required for it to be considered as a debate in Parliament. That is all this petition can achieve. The speaker won't waste Parliamentary time on this. The signatories are just sore losers.

They lost and Michael needs to get over it, or something. What manifesto pledges are they supposed have broken out of interest? Is it the tax thing?

I think a petition that gets 20,000 signatories means we rejoin the EU. After all, Petitions are never rigged or partisan and absolutely reflect the will of ALL the people (who can be bothered to sign it).

I honestly think it was a reckless and disgraceful decision of Cameron to put it into the hands of a referendum in the first place. It was an abdication of what needed to be a Government decision because it was far too complex and nuanced to ever get a popular vote based on the real issues at stake. He recognised that by resigning after the result. By putting it in their manifesto he hoped to bring some unity to the right wing under a Conservative umbrella. Instead he just kicked the can of dissension down the line and ended up increasing the divide. There we go, though. We are where we are, outside the EU and with the US looking to become more protectionist than ever. I am sure we will look to negotiate a closer deal with the EU before too long.
