I wonder if it’s a Philogene or Doak or we still hold interest in Both. Personally would prefer fee’s to be spent here than a no9. Hopefully we can find a loan solution for that with Hirst back soon and Delap as starter. Would imagine we are struggling to persuade anyone to join given the form of Delap.

Your last line is one of my worries, unless we went with someone a bit older who doesn't mind playing 2nd / 3rd fiddle.

I am sure Ashton, McKenna ect know what we need. If we spend a fee on a winger, it means there is funds available to do so. Striker should and will still be the main priority i am sure.

I don't think it should worry us. The best strikers are arrogant and think they're the best, Delap is only 21 and if we find someone just as good as him to take the load off him, we can rest him for more games or take him off earlier, and move back to KMcK's favoured Starters / Finishers system

A lot of the players who are going to be available and I use Evan Ferguson as an example aren’t going to come to be a sub. I suspect we will have to take a senior pro or someone stepping up a league. This will be why the available money imo will be spent on a winger/wingers. [Post edited 8 Jan 21:29]

Philogene update on 21:32 - Jan 8 with 6525 views | pointofblue | So Villa signed him so they can get a million or so more out of us then they paid Hull in the summer, I guess.

Be surprised if we pay more tbh. What was the fee they paid £18M ? (13m - the sell on)

So if we pay £14m, they get a £1m on top of what they paid Hull?

Didn't he pick up a minor injury last week? Not sure he'd be available for the Brighton game even if we get it done that quick

Philogene update on 21:56 - Jan 8 with 5473 views | Smoresy | I hope we aren't offering more than Villa paid in the summer, which was roughly £13m. He was a very exciting prospect then, with hope he could make an immediate impact at this level. Since then he's been groaned and booed out of the first team. Doesn't justify a profit in my book! Broad opinion at Villa is he's applied himself well defensively but has shown no signs of PL quality going forward (be that ability, confidence, or a bit of both). We know first-hand the difference between terrorising Championship defenders and PL ones.

Looked it up they paid 13.5m but add 30% to that and you have his value as of the summer 18m aprox. Don’t think it will be far from this tbh. Let’s hope they take a hit on it.

There’s levels though. Not quite being good enough for champions league Villa right now doesn’t mean he’s not of a level that can improve us. Plus he’s young, plenty of time to keep improving and we know how McKenna can develop players. Philogene’s a naughty player, I think he’ll shine for us. Hopefully Greaves & Delap are getting in his ear.

To be honest I’m not really that fussed about signing him, and wasn’t in the summer either. However I do very much seem to be in the minority so there may be something about him that I’m not seeing and haven’t seen every time I’ve watched him play. I’d also be a bit pissed because the messing about in the summer cost us time and we possibly had to go chuck a load of money at our second or third choice instead who hasn’t exactly delivered.
