Based on his time here we really cant bank on him remaining injury free until the end of the season. Massive massive gamble if we do.

I really don't think thats an option for KM and MA. I think it'll probably be a young player, upgrade on AAH. If you think that AAH was bought as a project for the Championship, whoever comes in will be a 'project' for the Premier League.

Hence why I think there might be something in the Maja links.

Quite right. I love Hirst. I genuinely think he has all the ability to be a good Premier league striker but unfortunately his body just doesn't want to give him a break. I do wonder whether his style of play is his biggest downfall.

He works so so hard which is one of his biggest strengths, but seems as though it causes him to breakdown. Hopefully our sports science department can crack it but based on his time here, it would be a huge gamble not to bring someone else in.

I agree that we can't run for the second half of the season with the strikers we have.

That said I think there is a little recency bias when we write Hirst off as terribly injury prone.

I think he's had two, unrelated but serious injuries with us.

Prior to that his appearance record going by his wikipedia page isn't terrible at all:
20/21 - 31 [Rotherham, Championship]
21/22 - 40 [Portsmouth, League 1]
22/23 - 30 [9 for Blackburn, then 21 for us
23/24 - 26 [26 for us in the Champ]

Hopefully his recent injuries are the exception, rather than the norm.

I know nothing, but I wonder if Hirst's style of movement might have contributed to some of his injuries. He does work really hard, but he also tends to stretch for things a lot. He looks (to use probably too unkind a word) ungainly at times, which is probably a natural consequence of his body shape and total commitment. Great long levers, but not so heavily built as say Delap. Not sure what you can do about that except targeted muscle development (which may or may not strengthen tendons too?) or use external help in terms of lycra etc supports.

I'm thinking the same if I'm honest. It's the area we are easily the weakest and is renowned for being extremely competitive and expensive in the market to get an impact full player in this position. Having reportedly paid 22m for JP I'm doubting do we have the money to actually do it.

I mean this with the greatest respect but we can't afford another al hamadi type who is seen as hot for the future and raw, we need someone like kieffer Moore last year with proven attributes a track record and something to prove. We showed in the summer we would be prepared to loan to get this position but if we purchase surely this is another minimum 20m going out the door.

I do worry for us, we have to balance to books off somehow and I know that's going to be resolved by selling an asset or 3 at some point.

An experience freebie (or a loanee - although that would be far from free) wouldn't be terrible at all. A Kieffer Moore type.
