Could they...?

Only a point off the play-offs now.

12 points in 11 days is tidy.

It's interesting to note their fine margins, of late goals, hanging onto 1 goal wins etc.
The exact opposite to our season, albeit at a much lower level.

I said when they came in like or loave them the Cowley brother's are decent league one and two managers.

It is funny how much they despise Ipswich, though, whereas some older Ipswich supporters followed Colchester as a second team.

Yes and while I never wanted them at Town, they could hardly have been much worse than Lambert or Cook.

They would have been as bad as Hurst and Cook in my view. Can't fault their lower league records, but nowhere near up to it beyond that. Can you imagine the Cowleys on a Marcus Evans budget? We may already be in League Two if that happened.

I wasn't that enthusiastic when they joined, but they've certainly worked wonders. The thing I like most about them is the way they (well it's Danny who does the talking) talk in detail about players, - what they're good at, what they're improving at, and genuinely seem to care about them. It's as if because they were never players themselves they're genuinely in awe of anyone who is a pro!

Colchester have two or three of the best players in the league - the defensive midfielder Macdonnell (on loan from N.Forest) is a superb player and surely destined for the Championship next season, and the fact that they could win last night without him (suspended) and Bishop (hamstring?) says a lot about the Cowleys' ability to adjust and get a performance from players playing out of position. (Incidentally, KVY has missed the last two with some kind of bug.)

A bit of talk yesterday on here about Kone, but last night Samson Tovide put on a 'hold my beer' show for 45 minutes. You won't ever see more power, pace and skill in the lower leagues than he showed for the first goal. I guess he added about half a million to his price in about ten seconds, - the little step-over to get the ball onto his left foot was PL class. (Not to say he'll be a PL player - but (like Macdonell) I think Championship is likely next season.

Yeah at famously bankrolled Colchester, it's not like failing is even a possibility is it!

99% of those I've spoken to are vvankers and are too thick to work out why George Burley would leave them for us.

I worked in Colchester for a few years and even the non football brigade seemed to like digs at Ipswich.

Thanks for the info here, I didn't know much about their squad. Did see that their wage bill is top seven recently - so they've hugely underperformed over the past three-five years, and have now returned to where they should be.

I knew this wage thing was true a couple of years ago, but was surprised it still is. (Wimbledon certainly outbid Colchester for a couple of players in the summer, but maybe that was just a case of which baskets they wanted to put their eggs in.) But this supports what you say (and by all accounts Colchester managed to sign Bishop even though Charlton were keen).

I heard recently that MK Dons had a budget six times bigger than Bromley's, which is not reflected here, so I don't know exactly who is to be believed.

I did enjoy the cracking derby against them at PR in January 2007. Probably helped by the fact that we won 3-2 (with the scoreline slightly flattering Colchester) but the crowd of over 28,000 generated a superb atmosphere.

Looking at the teams, that's a pretty distinguished Colchester line-up, with about 5 or 6 who would rank as 'all-time greats' for the club. (Richard Garcia in particular was a wonderful player.) The same could certainly not be said for Town's - and Colchester's (brief) stay in the Championship coincided with a fairly 'meh' Town squad. (Richard Naylor's name on the sheet seems positively anachronistic to me.)

Why should anyone hold any grudge against a lesser team that since 1950’s has only been in the same division as us for two seasons.
