Al - Hamadi And (HOPEFULLY) Pending New Striker 13:46 - Jul 15 with 1992 viewsMetal_Hacker

Well as we’ve got threads for Morsy and Hutch I thought I’d start one in relation to Phil’s News Thread ref AAH

If Luton are interested and I always thought he’d be loaned out / sold anyway pretty much like everyone else who could be expected to to step in ?

Any thoughts of who we could grab as maybe as a replacement and if perceived to be a 3rd striker who could be 2nd choice or joint 1st alongside Hirst ?

I’d imagine I’m in the minority but I’d keep Al Hamadi as third choice striker personally. If we sell now we’ll break even on him at best (almost certainly making a loss) and then have to spend money to bring in a replacement.

Not only that but it’ll be hard to recruit 2 strikers this summer, especially as they’ll both want to be the main man and so too will Hirst.

Also Al Hamadi isnt as bad as some make out. He’s not premier league quality and probably never will be but he was a decent enough impact sub in the Championship last time around and I don’t see why he couldn’t be again.

My hobbies include being quiet during trips, clapping with songs, and diabetes.

I like AAH too, but it is really tough on a young player to be a third choice striker when you play one up front.

The selective amnesia about Ali is frustrating to say the least.

Yes he struggled last season. Frankly he wasn’t alone. I didn’t hear too many complaints about him during the back end of our promotion winning season.

We need 3 strikers. He’s an obvious choice for no 3. It’s not an easy position to fill

Although you could have 2 and SS could be utilised in an emergency

Well some may say you have selective amnesia. He was never really that good, but sometimes that gets overlooked because we were still winning. However, having said that, he came on and ran around and saw games out but he did look very "raw".

Clearly the premier league is a step too far for him.

I think we need to clear some players out before we can bring anymore in. I doubt we would like him go if we don't bring someone else in. Surely we can't start the season with just Hirst.

Also maybe he doesn't want to be a third striker.

I thought he was a bit pants then to be honest. Ran around a lot but didn’t make an impact. He didn’t impress at Stoke either, although seemed to be unfit for the whole of his time there for some reason.

There’s some potential in there, but I’d be happy if we moved him on.

Looking at agents we have good relationships with, wouldn’t be surprised to see one of the following:

William Osula loan from Newcastle
Tommy Conway perm from Middlesbrough
David Fofana loan from Chelsea

Sadly I don’t think we can rely on Hirst to stay fit all season, so we need another striker at his level, competing with him to start. I’d be at the front of the queue for Will Osula at Newcastle, especially if they end up with Ekitike.

Someone like Osula and then a really young striker on loan from a prem club.

Osula would be amazing, but last I heard Newcastle want him involved more in their squad next season(just paper talk though, and yeah that could change if they bring another striker in).we’d have two cracking strikers. And then I probably would be happy with AAH staying as backup.

Kinda agree, I remember him being lively in the Championship, raw as he was. Moore was more important but together those two helped keep our top two train on the tracks, and the chances didn't dry up when Al-Hamadi came on.

Wouldn't be sad to see two big signings either though.

Same. He a 100% effort kind of player, but has major limitations on the technical side of the game.

A few on here went a bit ott with criticism of him, but the reality is that he's not a player that any of our promotion rivals would have in their squad, even as 3rd choice.

Conway is an interesting shout, can't imagine he'd come cheap though! Boro spent 4.5 million on him last summer.

I can see SS getting a lot more time in that role this season without it being just for emergencies; there will be games this season when we're up against a low block where having a No.9 who can find space and finish in a crowded penalty area will be of more use to us than a big, physical CF type.

Just recalling the goal he scored at the etihad in the first away game last season. Hanging on the shoulder of the last defender, through ball from Johnson and he was one on one with keeper and slotting home like he did 20+ times for Blackburn the previous season. Of course Delap soon came up trumps, but often thought of that SS goal and wondered why he wasn’t considered as a completely different Plan B. Instead we just went to Plan A 2.0 by bringing Hirst on

“Decent enough impact sub” says everything we need to know.
A reasonable striker fair enough, we need very good striker’s however. This is a team that is expected to go straight back up and unfortunately I don’t see Ali al Hamadi as a potent enough forward.
