State of Squad according to Stu Watson on 21:37 - Aug 10 with 3179 views | J2BLUE | Nothing new there really. I do wonder if Humphreys might manage to beat Taylor to the fourth choice CM spot. He did well when he came on against Birmingham albeit for a short time. Could we see Taylor leave and replaced with someone to compete for one of the starting places?

I’d love to see this but always feels like McKenna really likes Taylor. But I think Humphreys has more potential to develop.

I see Taylor being useful in games where we aren't pressed so hard and he can move up the pitch more. Strikes me as a better player when we have lots of possession versus under pressure a la Friday night. I'd rather get in another player who can play the double pivot and loan Humphreys out to a lower Champ side.

It seems like Broadhead goes once we have cover. Is Akpom that player? Humphreys out on loan, but will be replaced. I don't think we'll be able to sign a better third choice striker than Al-Hamidi. I wonder what our thinking is with him?

I hope so, I fear if Humphreys is loaned out again he'll just be sold.

CH needs to play championship football really, I don’t see how another League One loan benefits him or us.

Al Hamadi is only 3rd choice striker if Akpom is second choice. We either need another striker or someone else to cover Broadhead (unless Hutchinson stays).

Worth remembering that Humphreys has also covered at left back for us and right now we're short there. I suspect he'll stay with us.

Keeping him as backup left back and centre mid is just completely pointless IMO. Is he good enough to start for Ipswich Town in either position? If the answer to that is no (Which IMO it is) then it's completely nonsensical for him to stay. He's 21 and has the potential to be worth a decent bit of money. If he isn't going to start for us, he needs to be playing and we need to be adding value to the asset. Same with Ali. We are good enough and have enough money to ensure we have two really strong players for each position.

For an attacking player, we would probably rather he played in a dominating team rather than a very defensive team in the league above. Whose he going to go to in the Champ, Oxford? Maybe Wednesday or Charlton? If he had a great season at say Luton where he scored say 10 goals & got 10 assists under a manager he knows in Bloomfield, he would be worth a hell of a lot more than if he started 10 games in the Champ for a much more modest return. I'd be shocked if Luton hadn't contacted us about Humphreys. Wycombe probably have as well, but that's more hope than expectation.

State of Squad according to Stu Watson on 22:51 - Aug 10 with 1957 views | pointofblue | I imagine our perfect world but realistic squad, in the eyes of McKenna and Ashton, would look something like this: GK: Button, Palmer, Walton (3) RB: Johnson, Young (5) LB: Davis, e.g. Williams (7) CB: Greaves, Kipre, O'Shea, Woolfenden (11) CM: e.g. Brownhill, Cajuste, Matusiwa, e.g. Olderheim, Taylor (16) RW: Hutchinson, Ogbene (18) AM: Chaplin, Szmodics (20) LW: Clarke, Philogene (22) ST: Akpom, Al-Hamidi, Hirst (25) The glaring issue for me is right back. I don't rate Johnson and, for all his talent, Young is still 40. If we can sign someone who can play both full back positions it would be a massive boost. I think we'll also be looking to get our central midfield number up to five so we can loan Humphreys out. Broadhead will be off. Burns will step in to replace Hutchinson in the squad once he's fit. If we keep Omari beyond September 1st I'm not sure how we'll play it.

Feel bad for Harry, one injury after another. He’s lived the local boy’s dream of two promotions but not sure we’ll see him again in a Town shirt.

AAH plays anywhere in attack. Probably keep hold of him

This. I’ve never really worked out what Taylor adds in midfield…he can ping a shot, but doesn’t seem to be particularly strong at tackling or picking a great pass. I feel like he might be more of an attacking midfielder/number 10, but we have much better players there. Humphries seems like he has a bit about him and to me looks like he has a much higher ceiling, would love to see him get more time for us in CM this season.
