Can we blame refereeing decisions if we don't get promoted. 16:58 - Mar 23 with 932 viewsOldFart71

We have all seen these actions taken by referees recently that have cost us second place.
Penalties not given ot penalties given to the other team.
Two players suspended. One for being annoyed with the ref for not giving a clear penalty which was later deemed as being a penalty and one player getting a three match ban for a alleged hair pull that the ref never saw, but then decided to review.
But that doesn't tell the whole story of our season. A poor start, inconsistency, some players who haven't been at the races. A few injuries to key players.
So do we blame refereeing decisions if not promoted, especially if we fail by a couple of points or do we say given the chance we have had and have still got that it's our fault.

Think we have every right to feel aggrieved but we also could have done more to take matters into our own hands. If we'd turned up against Stoke first half then they wouldn't have had the chance to equalise in stoppage time as we'd have been a couple of goals clear of them. If we'd taken our chances against Leicester we wouldn't have had to rely on a shit ref getting something right for a change. The Leif thing and Kipre suspension add insult to injury but we have good enough cover for them. So we can feel mightily annoyed and a sense of injustice but it's not solely down to the refs that we are where we are.

Like you say, you don't get promoted / miss out on promotion based on a couple of refereeing decisions going for / against. As with everything over a 46 game season it's a contributory factor, but so are a number of things, cancelled / rescheduled games, team rebuilding at start of season, poor shot to goal conversion ratio, player injuries.

I actually think the rescheduled games could well have the biggest impact in the end, coming at a time where a few extra days of recovery could make the difference between a draw or a win . . .

I hope we don't go down this route.

It's our fault we were relying on a last minute penalty decision to beat Leicester.

And it's our fault we played so badly against Stoke in the first half, then didn't defend properly leading up to their penalty.

The Leif ban is ridiculous, but as Millwall fans were singing on Saturday, they were also fcuked by the FA (presumably referring to their red card against Blackburn). I know this was rescinded, but it arguably cost them 3 points.

No.

But then again, it's irrelevant, as we'll be promoted.

In both matches we played appallingly badly in both first halves.

In brief, over the coarse of the season, refereeing errors pale into insignificance when compared to the team playing poorly and missed chances.

No.

Refereeing decisions cannot be controlled. There are plenty of other things we can control and can decide our own fate.

No, we can blame a combo of late/poor signings and lack of tactical flexibility along with mental weakness.

Fortunes spent and looking like lowest points tally for second for a good few years, we'd be nowhere near top past few seasons.

The fixture pile up next month will kill us too.

It would be one of many factors, albeit nigh on impossible over the course of the season to conclude whether we've been net beneficiaries or adversaries. You would have to apply the same to every game of every club if you're talking about relative points totals as well.

No doubt we've been fooked over in recent weeks on a few big decisions, instinct says we've been on the worse side of them more often than not this season, but as others have said there are other factors.

Ultimately we can complain about whatever we like, but it'll make sod all difference to anything. Just need to focus on trying to find a way to win 5 games in April really.

No, everybody gets dodgy ref decisions. There are plenty of bang poor performances to be blamed first, Leicester, Brum, Wrexham and Preston away spring to mind, there are probably a few more.

Nope, refs not to blame.

Players and coaches makes waaaaaay more mistakes than refs.

Sorry OF71. Where we finish is entirely down to us. Put the game beyond the opposition and it really doesn’t matter what dopey decisions the ref makes. We haven’t done that enough.

Injuries? Every club get# those and we have better resources than most to cope.

A poor start and the time it’s taking for this team to form will the main reasons if we come up short.

Some of our fan bases are (as quoted by blackadder) wetter than a haddocks bathing costume.

Get over yourselves. Blaming the refs every week is getting tiring.
