Feels a bit old fashioned now with modern tech and ability to measure aerobic fitness and endurance. I used to like the bleep test, the trick was always to do well enough on the first one but leave a bit out there so you could evidence some improvement the next week.

Cross country runs that took in a detour down Cut Throat Lane if you attended a certain Suffolk school. Anyone else on here have memories of that?

Packet of granny herbals and a couple of fags under the railway bridge, wait until you see the keen kids come back, the roll in some mud.

Yes, I think I’m getting confused with high school cross country. It was character building!

We’d been relegated to 3 laps around the playing fields by the time I got there in the 80s

I can remember them over Gypeswick park as a youngster, it had/has hills, and a boggy part, Furguson punishing them pre season after a month on the pies and beer. They all looked bulkier, and throwing up was regular. No close season dietary tips! Only Muhren looked in good shape.

It was the Crane Hill-London Road run going further back. Always used to get a shot of it on the back page of the Evening Star with Dozzell languishing at the back. TWTD. [Post edited 2 Jul 15:56]

Was 3 laps when I was there too from 83 to 88. When I got to the fourth year they trialed one lap of each field for whatever year you were in but soon realised that the lesson wasn’t long enough for unfit fourth years like me to complete the course!
