Colback is Loan Target
Colback is Loan Target
Friday, 10th Sep 2010 16:57

Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback is the loan player Roy Keane is hoping to bring to Portman Road next week. The Blues boss revealed yesterday that he is close to making another temporary signing from a Premier League club.

Keane’s move for Colback, who was hugely impressive during his season-long loan with the Blues last year, comes as no surprise with the Town boss saying in back in May: “I’d take Jack back, of course. He’s been voted the Player of the Year by the players and that tells you how highly we all think of him.

“The boy’s still a kid but if there was a chance of Jack coming back here next season, Brucey knows where I stand on that — we’d take him here with open arms.”

Colback returned to the Stadium of Light for the final day of 2009/10, picking up a red card on his Premier League debut for the Black Cats.

After serving a one-match ban, Colback has been on the bench for all Sunderland’s games this season, but so far has made only one more appearance, in the Carling Cup victory over Colchester United.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has previously said that Colback will be part of his first team squad this season, however, Roy Keane’s one-time Manchester United team-mate said much the same about striker Martyn Waghorn, who he recently allowed to move to Leicester City on a permanent basis.

Would be great if he returned. Obviously not figuring too much in Bruceys plans and as he showed last season can shine here with us. Fantastic little player and encouraging that Keane is promoting that youth / experience thing.

He would be an excellent addition. Presumably though if we sign him next week the longest he can stay is mid-December under the emergency loan rules? Still well worth having of course.

Would be fantastic to see him come back to portman road! However may I ask how you know it's actually Colback Phil? It's just rare for us to find out an Ipswich Target for certain before it's officially announced...

I reckon we will end up buying him. Keano gets the best out of certain types. This is his home now.

Would be a fantastic loan addition,,,, Very versatile covering at full back and anywhere across the midfield... Just what we need,,, Would still like to see another addition or two or thou this seems unlikely,,,, Can't wait for the up-coming games,,, at last you can nearly say it is exciting to be a Town fan again,,, and its been long waiting,,,,, :)

With a number of players coming back, I think we need 3 players; a striker, midfielder and right-back. Colback ticks the box for the midfielder and believe he even played full back for us?

dont want 2 subdue the delight of all on here, but, as good as he was last season, can ne1 tell me where hes gonna play? frankly the only way he gonna get in the side is if sum1 injured, suspended or suffers a severe drop in form. money 4 wages cld b betta used elsewhere

Would be great to have him back in the squad - I'm guessing Keano would ask Leadbitter to drop back with Colback and Norris further forward - opportunity to take a bit of pressure off Hyam.

Coming in as cover for Luke Hyam?... I think not. Though would be useful to be able to take that position occassionally.

Has everyone forgotten he was actually very effective when used on the left and weighed in with his fair share of goals?

Very good player and its foolish to suggest that money could be better used!!

Blues1

There are lots of people complaining on here about squad depth etc... I guess he's in for versatility reasons, the fact he's s quality young player and to strengthen a thinnish on the ground squad.

This would be great news. Colback is the man!
Any news on Leonardo Borzani? Would be a good signing if we can get him-friend of Civelli's and could help him settle more.

Colback would ideally like to play in Norris or Leadbitter's position. I definitely agree with whoever said that Hyam could drop out at some point, with Leadbitter dropping deep and Colback and Norris pushing forward. Hyam will need a rest at some point, get injured or lose form. Ditto Leadbitter and Norris. It would be foolish to think that we can keep that trio together for 46 games plus cup (50 plus), and who better to bring in than last years player of the year. With doubts over Civelli and Townsend being unproven he could also play on the left or at left back if the current crisis continues. Can we re-sign him after the intitial loan ends I wonder? Still think we need Kyle Naughton from Spurs for the right.
