Evans Outlines Reasons For Appointing Jewell
Evans Outlines Reasons For Appointing Jewell
Thursday, 13th Jan 2011 13:56

Owner and chairman Marcus Evans has outlined his reasons for appointing Paul Jewell as Roy Keane’s successor as Town boss. Jewell takes over at Portman Road from today having been unveiled at a press conference on Monday.

Evans, in an interview for last night’s programme which is now available in full on Town’s website, said: “I wanted a manager with several years of experience in the job behind them and a history of promotion to the Premier League - and then staying up once that promotion had been gained.

“I was lucky enough to find a manager in Paul who has done that twice and pertinently with two clubs who had never been in the Premier League.

“I wanted a manager who had experienced lows as well as highs, which in turn, in my opinion, makes them understand better the reasons for their successes.

“I also wanted a manager who could play the way Ipswich supporters expect the game to be played and who will embrace the club's role in the community. And finally I wanted someone who can build the club over the long term.”

So Mystery Marcus, why do I keep reading this - it won't go away......

"Former Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson turned down the job at Ipswich Town.
The Sun says Megson turned down the Ipswich job before Paul Jewell was appointed.
Megson was flown by private jet from Yorkshire to the home of multi-millionaire Tractor Boys owner Marcus Evans last Tuesday.
Ipswich offered the former Bolton boss a 2½-year deal worth £500,000 a year. But he said no."

I'm still recovering from the high of last night and I will renew my season ticket again, but I worry about spin, flannel, and crashing betting odds seeping into my beloved club. I hope you're every thing you say you are ME.

Well aren't you Mr. Gullible, you believe everything you read in the super soaraway Sun? More paper talk trying to flog a story that's already been quite categorically denied.

Just be happy after last night and stop being so bleedin' negative all the time!

If you seriously believe the drivel that THE Sun writes or any other newspaper alike for that matter then you really need to think again,,,, I've at first hand experienced the lie's and dross that such papers come out with to sell their sleazy, pointless newspapers....

Given all the "I"'s in ME's statement, doesn't look like Cleggy got much input into the appointment, otherwise we'd probably have got someone like Clive Woodward. Decent appointment with good rationale. Roll on Millwall...

The bookies odds are more reliable indicator than the tabloids.
Jewell was always hot favourite as soon as Keane left and Pauls swift appointment helps prove this.

Forget about Megson or any other names touted, its all irrelevant now.

The Sun is a purely factual newspaper and I for one believe every word! I even base my morals on The Sun aswell as Hollyoaks

petermorris - i agree with all the others on here. on this occaision i do agree with this particulary story that they categorically deny. The papers need to sell, they are just milking the last of the Keane thing whilst they have a chance - keane being replaced by Jewell isnt a big enough headline grabber so they clutch at straws. And know what even if it was true who gives a flying fig eh? we have a decent manager, we won last night move on.

S'pose so..... after the last 18mouths/two years I've begun to worry too much. My club got messed with.
You're right, Beano is gone, we beat Arsenal - I should try and enjoy the moment!

petermorris - i feel sorry for you if you'd rather believe something that you read in the sun rather than something straight from the clubs owners mouth. I'm not sure if your cynical or gullible or both.

It had become the vogue for us ITFC supporters to look for something to question and criticise in everything that was done and said regarding our club. Listen, qwe have enough people against us without us also joining the chorus. It's time to pull up the drawbridge and start believing those who are on our team, not questioning them. We need to pull together, all of us and stop the silly squabbling that's come to be a feature of this website for many.

Of course we can all find things we'd do differently, but come on, let's believe that the owner, management, coaches and players want what we want and lets support them and encourage them as they try to get back to winning, successful ways.

There would have been riot if Megson got the job! Never done well and always been booted out before his contract expired .

Maybe it's spur grapes by meggy

ME has done everything he has promised, put the money up and avoided hands on running of club.

If it was not for ME things would be very doom and gloom, consider town prior to ME owed lots of dosh to lots of companies, including banks. Banks being in poo not so long ago would had knock on effect to the club. ME saved us from that pain!

petermorris, I hope that is your real name rather than using the name of a fine former Town player.

Calling Mr Keane 'Beano' : that's very droll and original. Never heard that before.

Feels just like old times this - I've almost missed it. Dare to comment on a niggling worry and everyone wets their pants. Just like being damned 18 months ago as a whinger and moaner when RK was appointed..... still some of you experts obviously know best. See you at the Emirates.

Surely a report beginning "the sun says" isn't worth the paper it's written on Pete?!

All the papers wanted Keane to fail, and now need to find some other stick with which to beat the club. Gary Megson only fits the profile "complete failure" so can't imagine Evans would have touched him with a ten foot pole. Jewell's in, lets all get behind him, eh?

apm - you're right and of course its not worth the paper its written on, there is nothing to read in The Sun - my point was 'I worry about spin, flannel, and crashing betting odds seeping into my beloved club', but after winning a football match some of the bed wetters can't handle anything negative today it seems. The whole interviewing 12 possible managers in two days thing, the leak causing odds to crash and the red herring Megson crap etc is spin and flannel and we don't need it. Thats all.

The Megson story is in too many places for it to be made up by the Sun. Look at the stories they have PR firm written all over them. His agents are trying to position him for the next job that comes up.
