Jewell Loving Life at Classy Town
Jewell Loving Life at Classy Town

New boss Paul Jewell says the people of Ipswich and Suffolk have given him a great welcome since he took over as manager of Town earlier in the month. The ex-Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan and Derby boss says the club has a touch of class about it and a really warm feel.

Jewell said: “I have to say the people of Ipswich and Suffolk have been really welcoming, really warm. The club has a really good friendly feel about it, but it always has had that.

“A number of managers have rung me up since I’ve been here and said ‘Great club’. There’s something about Ipswich, it’s got that touch of class about it, it’s got that warmth about it, maybe because it’s so far from everywhere!”

The new manager has, however, encountered one problem: “People have been really friendly, I just can’t understand what they’re saying, although that might be the other way round, I’m not sure!

“Everyone around the club’s been really warm. I know John Wark really well, I played with him at Liverpool, and David Lowe’s a friend of mine. I saw Roger Osborne downstairs.

“Everyone I know who has played here has a lot of feeling for the club, it’s a warm, real family club. A lot of people come here and never move.”

Jewell admits that he hasn’t seen too much of Suffolk as yet as he’s been so busy with the squad at Playford Road: “I’ve only seen the hotel and the training ground. I’m trying to get some accommodation sorted, although the hotel have been great. I’ve been getting back to the hotel late and then up early to get to the training ground.

“I’ve not really had time to catch my breath. I’ve had one drive out to look at a place to live, but other than that I’ve been mad busy.”

Ar, the feeling of replacing Keane!

We have an actual human being running our club! I had forgotten what this feels like! He's doing a great job getting fans on side - showing just the right amount of respect and praise for the club without going over the top and sounding false. It's obvious that he appreciates the history and tradition of Ipswich in a way I never felt Roy Keane really did - possibly because Keane was used to the likes Man U, Celtic etc. Either way, it seems Jewell likes us and so far we like you too Paul!

Love Paul Jewell.

I had been dubious about his appointment, but somehow he's well and truly won me over!

I agree. The more I hear Paul Jewell express himself the more I become convinced he will be a success here. it just feels so right somehow and this could be the perfect moment not just for the club but for him too!

Regarding BlueinBrums comments about having a human being in charge I couldn't agree more. That human factor is essential for getting the very best out of decent and perhaps only average players.

Its nice to have the happy days back at town, seems a large cloud has been lifted at last and the sunshine is breaking through. I didn't think this season would come to much with Keane but now I am looking forward to each game again.
Thank you Jewell

clive_baker - Fantastic question :) put a smile on face

It's so great reading all these stories and comments. Jewell seems to fit in so well at Ipswich and it saying and doing all the right things. I agree with him about Ipswich being a warm club, although during the last two years it felt distinctly cold! On Saturday it felt like the old Ipswich we know and love were slowly returning: a manager we all support, the crowd making noise and supporting the team, the team attacking and scoring goals. Time to enjoy our football again, WELCOME PAUL!

Kuqi and Joe Royal lived in Hintlesham - could do worse - nice golf club, hotel, pub, and pick up the odd game of football on the rec. where Sproughton youths play home games on Sat morning

So far so Good. Like him more each day, but he's got to get us playing like the 2nd half against Doncaster.

I think we'll fall back to Earth this week, but a couple of decent signings and I'm hoping we can get a decent crowd in for the rest of the Season, stay up and build for next season (sounding like a broken record there!)

Nice one PJ, yes Ipswich is a Warm place with a touch of class. Would be nice to see some more class on the pitch now.

Enough of this drivel, how about actually signing a player before the transfer window closes?

I echo everything you've said Mark!

Welcome to Town Paul.... I'm really feeling you're the man to add to our 'great club's history'.

Sounds like a top bloke every time he speaks exactly what we have needed .Respects our history and old legends unlike Keane who slagged off the fans and attacked Mariner last season .
Kate Moss you must be gutted we won on saturday so you couldnt slag off Jewell some more ,perhaps if we are winning and playing well we may not need to throw more money at new signings, hasnt done us much good in last three seasons .Develop and improve the players we have will stand us in a much better position
